Walk to Lake Michigan beach access north and south of the Leland Harbor, Lake Leelanau, and Nedows Bay access at the end of Pearl Street, a short walk away. Walk to the Leland Country Club, Leland Yacht Club, Hancock Field for tennis or basketball - playground, walk to all the shops, galleries, cafes, library, and cultural center at the Old Art Building and Leelanau Historical Museum. Order a late evening ice cream cone across the street or take a glass of wine and walk a few short steps to the Leland Harbor at sunset each evening @Fishtown as the sun hides behind the Manitou Islands. Always a beautiful way to end the day, regardless of the time of year.
The cottage is extremely efficient. If entering from the eastside/driveway, you will arrive in a generous combination laundry/mudroom area. Ideal for wet bathing suits and towels - or removing snow gear. A great place to stage cut flowers or fruit from the farmers market just across the street. The kitchen is a large eat-in/sit-in space where guests will not want to leave. There is a private porch and garden seating area on the Southside of the house, accessed off the kitchen - nice for entertaining in and out. There is an open living and dining space with a wood-burning stove, inviting and cozy for relaxing or gathering. Upstairs is a well-crafted sleeping space with two separate bedrooms. Efficient spaces with built-ins for storage. Private, warm spaces which invite guests to read or nap peacefully away from it all.
The cottage is 30 walking steps to the river and 83 walking steps to Leland Harbor. You will walk or easily bike everywhere> grocery, library, wine tasting, meals, golf, tennis, paddle board, kayak, shop for art, books, gear right here.
Easy drives to all Leelanau County has to offer> local wineries, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore starts 7 miles south of town. Across the street is the field office for the Leelanau Conservancy, providing maps and details on well-groomed managed trail systems throughout the county, including a new mountain bike trail. There are (4) easy yet spectacular hikes within 2-3 miles of the cottage. Leelanau State Park is at the tip of the peninsula, offering trails and tours of the historic lighthouse at Cathead Bay. Also, a short drive away.
Bring your paddle boards, bikes, kayaks, surfboard, kite board, canoe. ALL can be enjoyed on any of the three accessible bodies of water: Carp River across the street in town, Lake Leelanau Park and public beach access at the end of Pearl Street, 3 minutes away, and Lake Michigan, 4 short minutes away on North Street. Leelanau County offers world-class road biking - the cottage would be a terrific home base after long yet easy road rides to Northport, Suttons Bay, Omena, and Glen Arbor.
The cottage is in the center of all the wonderful cultural events and activities in Leland visit the Old Art Building, the Leelanau Historical Society, Fishtown Preservation, Leelanau Conservancy across the street. Enjoy outdoor experiences plus the beauty of Leland and Leelanau County have to offer for a unique getaway. Private and romantic in the middle of all the fun.
