This guesthouse is an excellent choice if you are looking to stay in Yakushima on a reasonable budget. It is especially good if you are riding the bus since one of the main bus stops is situated right in front of the house. In addition, museums, restaurants and the town supermarket are all within walking distance. In the guesthouse, the amenities for the guests are well thought-out: they include a small kitchen with a fridge and a free-to-use washing machine. I also found the tatami rooms to be quite charming. So basically, if you want to go on a hike, you can walk to the local A-Coop supermarket (15 mins walk from the guesthouse) to buy a picnic, then to the tourism center to buy permits & bus tickets (5 mins), then after a good night sleep on your futon you just roll out of bed and get on the bus to the trailhead (bus stop in front of the house). In the evening, after the hike, you can throw your clothes in the washing machine. Ta-daaaa. Holiday = success. Plus, I liked the pun in the guesthouse name when I eventually understood it (after several days).

This is a classic Japanese style Ryoken in a centralized location in Miyanoura. You can walk most anywhere in town from here, and to the main bus stops. If you rent a car, the owners have parking tags available for you to use in a spacious parking lot right next door. There are several rooms on the property, and from what we could tell they were all fairly spacious. My husband and I got a room with classic futons. The futons, comforter, and pillow were incredibly comfortable. Probably the best futon set I have used in Japan. The comforter smelled great too, freshly washed. Each room is equipped with an AC, ours worked incredibly well. No issues with it. We did use the washing machine here and it worked very well. Some quick details: It seems all rooms are upstairs, there is one shared bidet toilet, and the walls are the classic thin Ryoken walls. We tried to be quiet as we came and went for early hikes and late returns because noise traveled. Special Note: I thought I misplaced by Apple Watch when I was returning on the ferry. The owner diligently did look for it on my behalf and kept me notified of places they checked. It turns out it was in a random bag when we were early packing up the next day. I really appreciate the thoughtful effort into trying to locate it! My Find My app seemed to have malfunctioned and showed it still on the island which is why I thought I left it behind.

The location was great and the room was nice. Easy to get to the ferry and some good local restaurants close by. Also right near the road that takes you to one of the islands famous hikes. The traditional Japanese futon bed was very comfortable
The doors were loud to open and shut

The extremely kind and helpful Staff and the location.
The bedroom did not match the booking.com description: far too small for two people and luggage, no mattresses, bunkbeds (i am 68 yrs old) and shared toilet & shower. Furthermore, the room was next to the shared kitchen. I asked for a room upgrade as soon as i arrived but everything was booked up. I almost cancelled on arrival but i was too tired.
