Lovely location with lots to do around. Apartment very comfortable and cosy

Great location, with cycle and walk paths nearby. We found some great family attractions too- not too far to travel to. The apartment is great. Well kitted out with essentials. The gym hall was a big bonus for the children. Herman was very friendly, helpful and easily approachable.

Can't recommend Herman and family's chalet highly enough!

Friendly host who made us feel very welcome and ensured the apartment was clean and well-equipped, but relaxed and not intrusive. Seemed like a lovely family (4 primary-aged kids) who had made a big life choice to leave the city and start a new adventure here, where the air is pure and the outdoors has so many opportunities year-round. Though Menzenschwand is a tiny village - especially sleepy in summer - it is close to St. Blasien (beautiful town with excellent supermarkets, bank, cathedral...), and a 20 minute drive from Schluchsee, so it's well-situated for summer watersports, hiking, biking. Titisee - both the lake and the town - is 30 min by car, where you have the all the benefits and drawbacks of a tourist 'honey-pot': outdoor bars, restaurants, lake views, outdoors shops incl. bike hire, souvenir shops. Ours was one of four apartments within the chalet, but it was so spacious we didn't have any noise issues, and the kids enjoyed multilingual basketball in the dedicated sports hall/fitness room with the other families. Sauna, washing machine, dryer and wine/beer/soft drinks all available at reasonable rates. Some of the family bikes were also offered. There was a well-organised welcome guide, produced by the local tourist board. This listed countless things to do locally - up to an hour's drive away. Bike ride along the disused railway was excellent (esp. second section), boat hire also straightforward on Schluchsee. The official trails in this booklet are well signed, so no need for detailed hiking maps. We easily filled our 4 days/5 nights: there really is so much available to do in this part of the 'high Black Forest' (Hochschwarzwald) and it's a wonder that more British people haven't discovered it. The tourists here seem to be mostly German (perhaps guarding a national secret?!

We liked everything, but here are some things to bear in mind so you know what to expect. We booked for two parents, two teenage kids. Be aware that Menzenschwand is quite isolated in summer, so one hiking trail and the family mountain bikes could fill a few days, while everything else is a drive away. The family bike collection didn't stretch to four full size mountain bikes, but we hired 4 in Titisee from midday (half-day rate) for a very reasonable €50. The tourist guide is entirely in German, though much of it is duplicated on-line where you can find versions in other languages or use Google to translate.

Superb

The number and size of the rooms were sufficient for one family (2 adults + 2 kids). The kitchen was easy to use and the oven and dishwasher worked well. The shower was comfortable with stable hot water.

Wi-Fi was not so strong. It was interrupted sometimes.

A really excellent stay in one of the nicest village in the Black Forest!

This a really excellent option for those wishing to stay in one of nicest villages in the Black Forest! Extremely welcoming couple who manage the site, with a well equipped and comfortable muti room apartment with a beautiful view form one of the room down the valley and a nice cute terrace as well.

Nothing to report; they seem to have thought of all required essentials!

Amazing View!

We loved the place, the view! The landlady had lent special touches to the place. We reached the place on a public holiday and had forgotton to buy some wine. She had quite a nice selection waiting for us and we could buy it at a very reasonable price. The sauna was a great addition too! And she was super friendly! All in all it was a superb place!

Soggiorno nella natura, posto tranquillo e rilassante.

Location immersa nella natura, sono a disposizione Mountain bike per le escursioni, è presente una grande sala in cui i bambini e ragazzi possono giocare a qualsiasi cosa, soprattutto quando il tempo è piovoso. Trampolino per saltare e sauna a disposizione per gli ospiti.
