Casa Elvira

I loved this charming Casa above Cala Rossa! It was the perfect stop before leaving Sicily. Took my last swim at the beautiful cove. There was plenty of room in the Villa for me to repack all of my luggage. The restaurant Calarossa nearby is spectacular. The iClub Lounge was the perfect place to have a cocktail and watch the sunset. The breeze in the house with all the windows open was so beautiful as was the outdoor seating. Marcello was a great host.

There is essentially no Internet or Wi-Fi. Marcello needs to fix that. It’s the reason I gave nine out of 10.

Nous avons été accueillis très chaleureusement par Marcello, le propriétaire, qui a pris le temps de nous présenter la maison. Il habite à côté, il est donc facilement joignable en cas de besoin. Il y a une place de parking réservée pour l'hébergement. La grande terrasse ombragée permet de prendre les repas au frais quelque soit l’heure de la journée. La maison est de taille idéale pour une famille de 4. L’endroit est calme, la vue mer un peu réduite a cause des arbres en contre bas, mais ils apportent de la fraîcheur, c’est un grand plus en été. Se rendre à la petite plage à pieds est très facile. Cette location correspond tout à fait à la description qui en est faite.

Il serait bien d’ajouter quelques couverts et il serait sans doute utile de rafraîchir les étagères de la cuisine.

The apartment has a very nice garden, full of plants, with a lot of shade and three levels of terraces. It is very close to a small beach with pebbles, which is very nice for snorkeling (no sea urchins,the stones are not sharp, so it is safe to walk in and you get a strong foot massage) and is very close to a nature-protected area. The location of the property is very good, especially if you are happy with this small beach, or if you rent a bike (not available on-site, but in Terrasini) you can easily get around. There is a small sandy beach in the centre of Terrasini (also good for snorkeling), from where you can watch beautiful sunsets. Terrasini is not the nicest town, but it has a beautiful main square with a nice church, great restaurants and gelaterias. During our stay we rented a car and visited several other towns and sandy beaches.

Our host was not very nice with us which affected our stay. - The photo with the hammock looked very promising, with an exceptional sea view, but in reality you cannot see anything when laying down. Anyway, it was full of bird poo. - The kitchenware was shabby with some missing items. - The owner told us to wear shoes when using the washing machine for safety reasons. When my husband took out the freshly washed clothes, he got a small electric shock (not serious though) - When we turned on the light in the single bedroom, we smelled burnt plastic, the retro lamp got superhot. We turned it off and informed the owner. He said we should not worry, it is just the smell of burnt little insects. - Waste shall be collected separately, but there was only one waste bin at the property for mixed trash and we had to go to the supermarket to buy plastic bags and keep them in the kitchen without additional bins. - Due to poor communication we put out the organic waste bag on the main road a few meters away from where he wanted us to put it. Then we received his unfriendly messages. There were no signs on the street, so it was not obvious where to put the bags. I saw several locations around where there were appropriate trash bins with different colours for the different wastes and which keep the plastic bags together - that would help a lot in keeping the neighbourhood cleaner than it is now (Sicily roads are unfortunately full of waste). The missing services of the property would not mean us a big problem, however, the check-out experience was stressful. At arrival, the owner took 300 EUR and told us to use everything carefully as it is a vintage house. We respected this but the check-out lasted very long. He was going around, checking everything, the curtains, the shutters, complaining that we forgot to close the couch, looking for the tap of the sugar container (which was already missing from before). At the end we got the 300 EUR back, but we felt very bad.
