Catba Central Hotel 2

Wonderful stay! We spent one night here and had a great experience from start to finish. The young man and woman running the hotel were incredibly welcoming and went above and beyond—offering helpful recommendations and assisting us with booking an evening tour which made everything so easy. The woman made great food recommendations and we were able to try banh da cua which is a regional specialty. The room was very comfortable, with strong, hot water and powerful air conditioning—an absolute must in Vietnam. The location was also perfect, within walking distance of plenty of restaurants and services. Overall, the value for the price was excellent. We would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Cat Ba Island and would happily stay here again

Perfect ! The receptionist is really nice, he helped us a lot during our stay. Always kind, tries to do the best for your stay. Honestly, we recommander it highly !

The staff was nice. The location is a short walk to many of the restaurants and your shops.

The bathroom wasn't cleaned well when I checked into the room. Even after I asked the cleaning staff that the toilet was still a mess they didn't clean it well. The walls are thin and there were people in the hotel that were very loud till close to 1am.

It is located on the quieter side of town, but this is relative as it is still noisy with honking traffic (buses, motorbikes etc) passing by. The main staff member Thanh was very helpful. The reception is simple but clean. The elevator worked. After that it all goes a little downhill.

The rooms have reasonable space and natural light from barred window. No view from room 502, just the wall of the neighbouring building. The floor had been freshly mopped but even after it dried it felt oily and gritty. We couldn't fit the size 4 slippers provided so we just wore our own shoes inside. The bed was hard, one flat pillow provided each, and a thin blanket over top. The sheet was linted and uncomfortable. The bathroom smelt awful - we had to keep the door closed to stop our headaches. There was no spare toilet roll provided, and no kettle and cups - we had to ask for all of these. The shower leaked and kept the neon pink bathroom mat soggy the whole time. The bathroom floor also had mounds of hair from the previous occupant. The hot water switched off randomly so we had to wait for showers. The air con blows directly onto the bed, so even at a warmer temp and low fan speed we were uncomfortable. The air con light was also so bright that it cast shadows at night - we added some dark tape over it. The fridge wasn't plugged in, so the cold drinks and fresh milk that we had just bought became warm before the fridge cooled down. Some of the power sockets didn't work. The bedside lamp didn't work. Weirdly there were multiple warning signs printed in the room, as well as a book of "things that guests cannot do" such as use the towel to wipe the floor, or bring radioactive materials into the hotel (yes, seriously). The worst part was the noise within the hotel. Because it is entirely tiled and the rooms are not soundproofed, there is nothing to dampen the noise of other guests in their rooms and the corridors. For us, it was mostly young children yelling (yes, actual yelling) in the hallways as they played and called out to each other. The lack of any sound-absorbing materials amplified the noise. It was so bad that we reported it to reception and also berated one of the children yelling close to our room.
