Very comfortable - owners were lovely

Everything was immaculate, we had a wonderful time and it inspired us as a family to make big leaps. Great hosts and Simon took the time to make us feel really welcome and relaxed. We met his wife towards the end of our stay and she was lovely too. Great people, accommodation was fab, shower was great, we loved it so much we are going back for a week and Halloween. Everything was an absolute breeze, communications, parking and just everything. Highly recommended.

That we didn’t discover it sooner.

This is a lovely, quiet, self-contained conversion of an old farm building. Everything is clean and well-presented. We were returning for a second year, having been very favourably impressed when we stayed last year. Both times, we were attending a weekend event in the village of Moniaive, which is a 15-minute drive away (and where, unfortunately, there is no longer much accommodation available). Big Positive Points: * Excellent 'large double' bed (we enquired about the wonderful mattress last year, and then went out and bought the same brand ourselves, having found the mattress so comfortable). * Superb Walk-in Shower - lots of hot water and strong water pressure! I appreciate the attention to details like the grab handle where you step up slightly to get in the shower and the provision of a nice shampoo. * Lovely Views from the sitting room across fields (see two photos, taken from the sitting room on a largely overcast morning). * Well-stocked bijou (i.e. small) kitchen area - where everything worked well for us, even the induction hob - once I got to grips with the unfamiliar (to me) technology. * Good Wi-Fi. OVERALL - there has been a consistently high standard of attention to detail - down to the long-handled shoehorn and chair by the outdoor footwear mat at the entrance door, and the outdoor light by the door outside. We were a couple staying here, but it certainly would have be possible for a family of four to enjoy a stay at this cottage - with a single bed and sofa bed in the one large bedroom as well as the 'large double' bed that we so appreciated. We hope to return next year!

For us - NOTHING! But then we live on a single-track road in Wigtownshire and are used to narrow roads and dark skies at night. We would caution people who are unfamiliar with rural locations and single-track roads, to expect a dark drive at night, and also a very narrow single-track road with verges that are not mown for the last bit of approach to the farm entrance. We know what to look for, but note that the 'Boreland' name on the sign at the roadside is only visible from one direction (other side is blank). The road is actually very quiet - we didn't encounter a single car in any of our trips to Moniaive and back. The owners of the cottage provided excellent travel directions in an e-mail before we arrived, with exact details of what to type into Google Maps or to tell your SatNav. This is very helpful, because the postal address of the farm is misleading (this rural location is not very near to the village of Dunscore - actually it's closer to the village of Moniaive, which suited us well).

The huge bed was very comfy, the shower was great, the kitchen was very well equipped. The living room was lovely to relax in and "watch" the view.

The only small downside which was nothing to do with the property or owners, was the state of the surrounding small roads which were full of potholes, which took longer to get onto the A roads and into town
