Paseo de Gracia by Aspasios

The apartment was on the 2nd floor (3 floor for us U.S. residents) and had a elevator that was just inside the front door. Our room 201, had a small standing room only balcony that gave you a wonderful view of the surrounding area. Even though it was on a busy street, the room was peaceful and quiet.

There was some initial problems with the entry code to access the apartment. The code we were given did not work. Fortunately they responded via text message quickly and within 5-10 minutes we were buzzed in. Still we could not leave until a new code was remotely programmed in and tested which was about an hour or less. I'm not a fan of off-site managers but I will say they were extremely prompt and easy to work with.

We loved the location, central for attractions and great public transport nearby. Great apartment lovely and clean, with great facilities. Access was really easy, which was fantastic after our delay arriving by plane.

Unfortunately, my experience at Aspasios Paseo de Gracia was quite disappointing, especially considering the price and the level of accommodation advertised. Three months before my stay, I contacted Aspasios several times to specifically request the penthouse apartment with the open-plan kitchen, as shown in the photos. I was repeatedly told that the specific apartment could not be guaranteed in advance, but that they would do their best to accommodate my request. Unfortunately, upon arrival, I was given another apartment in the same category, but it was not at all equivalent in terms of the experience. Instead of the large terrace shown in the photos, I had a small balcony. The washing machine was also not working. I was initially offered the option of using a laundromat at my own expense, which I found particularly inappropriate given that the apartment costs over €300 per night. After expressing my dissatisfaction, I was eventually given access to apartment 403 — the apartment I had originally wanted — so that I could use its washing machine. I insisted on staying there for the final three days of my stay, and only then did the accommodation finally feel worthy of the price I had paid. Even apartment 403 had some issues: the large window/door did not close properly and a technician had to come to fix it, and there was also a humidity problem in the shower. Aspasios manages a large number of apartments in Barcelona, but in my opinion, the level of service and maintenance needs to be improved if the company wants to maintain a high-end positioning. One final piece of advice: if you specifically book the penthouse, make sure you know exactly which apartment you are being assigned. Based on my experience, apartment 403 and apartment 402 do not offer the same experience, despite being presented as equivalent in category.
