There are some abandoned old resort buildings in the adjacent property on the way to beach which look ugly (not so nice, but just visual this is).

Great venue , high priced but low staffed.

Staff were incredible.

On arrival there was 1 calm lady on reception, bless her though behind the scenes it was only her and another member of staff on to make up 15 rooms. 5 villas. And that was just our booking. They ran around trying to get us in as early as possible. We felt so bad we set up some of the beds our selves and put sheets out. We also personally did the bins and replaced the towels. As again under staffed. The staff they do have are incredible and dont ket it show at all. Unfortunately its like most places that do well , the owners stop caring and the staff are left trying to keep the show together. 2 people doing over 50 villas minimum 3 beds. Tough going so 2people getting paid to do the job of 10.

The pool area and Kai restaurant were lovely, and the staff at Julie’s shop were wonderful. The apartments really could do with a modern uplift, especially the bathrooms and furniture and I think a cleaning service throughout the stay would make it more suitable for long term stays. The beds were very uncomfortable, but we asked for a mattress topper which helped. The staff were very friendly and overall the stay was lovely.

The beach is close.

The hotel is old, and the flat needs some serious renovation. There was no breakfast available, so I had to walk a great distance to find a place to eat. I think it's very unusual for a hotel not to serve breakfast.

The apartment is very spacious and the patio is lovely and very well equipped. We had an amazing BBQ.

The check-in and check-out times must be changed to accommodate customers. Check-in at 17:00 is too late as you lose a day. However, staff were great and stored our food in the fridge before giving us the key.

Very spacious accommodation but we won't be back

3 bed town house on 3 levels, loads of space, rooms good size, loads of storage. Very good cooking facilities. Everything in working order, all appliances worked well and were Zanussi brand. We appreciated the filter coffee machine. Grounds were very pretty, pools were heated though still felt cool! Shops and restaurants nearby to drive to. Quiet area. Good little shop nearby that sold most things. Large beach a few mins walk away. Great value for money with the space we had though definitely not a perfect property. Lovely town of Estepona 10mins drive away, Marbella easily reached. Loved seeing dolphins swimming very close to shore line.

Disappointed with some comfort factors. Bedrooms very light at night, no blackout available so lights from across the road shone in. Shutters had been varnished so that they could not be altered and curtains were see through. Also noisy due to all the internal doors having static door knobs, no handles to turn. Difficult to open and shut so doors either had to be kept open or slammed shut, property tiled throughout so everything echoed! So heard this all through day and night, including from next door due to terraced set up. One of the windows was newer UPVC wood effect giving good insulation but most were older wooden ones that did not seal or lock properly. Could hear every car driving past and every conversation from passers by. This poor quality was surprising from a Macdonald hotel. We were lucky it was quiet and no noisy neighbours as would have been worse. One of the photos on Booking.com was misleading as it seemed the property was on the beach but it was actually a good 6-7min walk away past a disused hotel, it is towards the top of the aerial picture of the beach, not by the beach. This should be made clear on the photo. So this was disappointing. There's not a lot to walk to within a few mins. Everything is quite spaced out so need to be happy to walk a way, or drive. Beach is quiet wasn't a lot going on so drove into Estepona which was a lovely town. Restaurant on site Kai, was more of a Gastro set up next to the pool so no laid back beach bar option which we prefer for that sort of location. We only ordered drinks once 2 x iced coffees, full of ice rather than coffee that cost us 12 Euros.

Great property and good facilities. Could have been better with a proper coffee machine as only filter coffee provided. Kitchen well equipped and great space. Convenient to love around the coast. Pool on door step and beach a 2 min walk.

Villacana is a special place and we would come back to without a doubt. I would appreciate some feedback on my concerns

I’ve been coming to villacana since I was a child with my family. Bringing my own family was something important to me and overall we had a great time. The kids club was great and I just love that the grounds and facilities are the same as I remember from years ago. Our apartment was huge and had everything we could have possibly needed.

A few issues this year I’m afraid… the bed in the master bedroom was not comfy at all. The main pool area is lovely however it was a big disappointment that “splash time” was only one hour a day- right in the middle of kids club. We spent a lot of money on floats and our girls hardly got to use them. Another, more serious issue was the steps in the indoor pool were not secure. My 4 year old slipped off it and cracked her front tooth. It was the day we were leaving so we didn’t have time to put in a formal complaint on this.

Villas were really nice, clean, really friendly staff, villas had everything we needed during our stay. Multiple pools to use, main pool had a happy hour (!!),

The location is a bit difficult if you don’t have a car. Either reliant on Spanish buses (not the easiest or most reliable), or taxis (price added up!). Limited sun beds, mostly due to a high number of guests ‘reserving’ with towels and not actually using them till hours later. Would be great if a bit more policing of ‘towel’ bed reserving was conducted.

Not the best but not the worst

The bed was atrocious. probably the most uncomfortable bed I have slept on in a hotel and the headboard creaked every single time you moved which was super annoying. Also was given a twin room when I booked a double which was a little bit annoying but just pushed the beds together. Staff - the Spanish lady on reception and all the gardening team who came across were very friendly, everyone else seemed a little bit uninterested. Communication when we checked in wasn’t great either, we were told opening times for the restaurant which then wasn’t open and was only food at the pool bar, opening times for Lisa’s shop were also wrong (not entirely sure that’s the hotels fault) we weren’t told where the umbrella was for roof terrace, weren’t advised on towel changes or room cleaning at all.

Pools quite deep for the children. One of ours got scared on the first day as they couldn't touch the bottom. There is a lifeguard and make sure you bring floats. Single glazing in some rooms did mean the noise travelled, which is hard when you have young children trying to sleep. It looks like they are replacing the windows.

the gardens are absolutely immaculate. we travel round the world a lot and these garden for. development situation are amazing. really impressive. Everything very clean. super helpful staff. Sightly lacking in restaurants but the new restaurant on the beach at the bottom of the grounds was really good.
