Cigarral de Caravantes

The view from our room was fantastic. Nice to be able to sit outside on our patio in the evening and early morning. The food was also fantastic - we didn't have the breakfast but the dinner was exceptionally good. Parking was free and very convenient.

Room was very basic (didn't have plugs in bidet, toilet and bath!!). Also didn't match hotel's statement about adaption for disability (e.g. didn't have the claimed height adjustments for sink and toilet.)

Old style Spanish establishment. Brick and wood instead of concrete and glass. Wrought iron door handles (some a little rusty) instead of plastic. Terraces with fountains and a lovely view of the distant towers of Toledo. Good buffet breakfast with seating indoors or out. Medium sized pool and sheltered seating area. Ample parking with direct access to rooms.

We visited in mid-June - hardly low season - and the hotel seems to follow the local policy of only opening bar and restaurant for the last three or four days of the week until Saturday. Arriving on Sunday there was nothing - not even a can from the vending machine which was broken. Restaurants, which the reception indicated as a five minute drive, were all closed and a further fifteen minute walk uphill through narrow streets of the Old Town produced just one possibility for bar food. Knowing this and aware of its position slightly isolated outside of town there should be some provision for guests arriving tired in the evening - guests who don't want a further drive and an on-foot slog in search of dinner or a snack. A fridge somewhere with a few cans, and simple pre-packed snacks shouldn't be a problem for a hotel of this class.

We were lucky enough to be given a room on the upper of two floors and our little balcony had a beautiful view back over to the city of Toledo. Staff were friendly, the room and bathroom were spacious.

The driveway / roadway outside the hotel should be upgraded and regularly tidied cleaned as it clashes with the beautiful experience once inside the boundary walls.

Room generally a bit tired and lacking what we’d expect e.g. a fridge , some water
