Great location if you want to explore the Aterea Valley and Kakizore Gorge. Staff very helpful and friendly. Luggage can be stored especially if you are out exploring. Dinner and breakfast menu was great, didn't go hungry, plenty of food.
For such a large facility there was only a small bathroom/onsen. I did have to wait 20mins before I could wash myself

Absolutely loved this place. Even though the location isn't very convenient if you're traveling on foot or hiking, it's 100% worth the trip.
The staff speak only Japanese, but their hospitality and warmth come through without needing many words. They made me feel genuinely welcome throughout my stay.
The meals were exceptional, beautifully prepared, and delicious. The onsen was simply fantastic as well.
This is exactly what I was hoping for. Easily a 10/10 experience.

It was quaintly old fashioned and genuine
The food was very good
The staff were characterful
It was a bit unusual in the Fawlty Tours sense
The onsen was very much an ugly old indoor room which was not what the photos suggested
The futons were already laid out at 4pm when we arrived so we couldn’t use the table in our room
No lift - have to heave cases upstairs
Rooms not very soundproof
Toilets miles away
