About this cottage rental

Located in a secluded valley close to the classic Cotswold town of Stow-on-the-Wold, Old Brewery House is a terrific Cotswold retreat with a real difference, sleeping up to 8 guests in four spacious ensuite bedrooms. Old Brewery House is located within the grounds of the Donnington Brewery (hence the name!) which in 1827 was bought as a working mill by Thomas Arkell, his descendant Richard Arkell founded the Brewery here in 1865. Inside the property, much of the original charm and character has been retained and many of the rooms enjoy stunning views across the gardens with roaming peacocks and the beautiful private lake with ducks and swans. The open-plan kitchen/dining room is well equipped and there are 2 living rooms, so plenty of space! The four bedrooms can be configured into doubles or twins (on request) which makes this property flexible for all parties. Oh, and the beer produced is of course available to purchase from Andy, the onsite manager!

For larger groups, Old Brewery house can be booked with Waterhead Barn with a maximum occupancy of 21

We were a group of 7 ladies celebrating 2x 50th birthdays. Plenty parking space right outside of the back door. 4 spacious bedrooms with comfy beds and plenty of space to hang and put clothes. Andy met us to give us a tour and explain the cooker (which was a challenge to get used to but we got there). The living room was spacious and a great place to hang out. Very well equipped kitchen with huge dining table. The grounds were lovely, just sad the weather was so wet that we didn't get much chance to explore. We are hoping to make a return next year.

Our second stay at the Brewery house and once again had an enjoyable time. Andy greeted us upon our arrival to help with ann queries and explained how to use the aga in the kitchen which makes the kitchen really cosy. Such a peaceful location with lake views and wild life that goes with it. The house is spacious , comfortable ,clean and warm. There were six of us and two being children they loved it with the peacocks visiting and the swans on the lake. I am sure we will be back.

The accomodation was in a beautiful old building. We were pleased to find acommodation for 4 couples with 4 spacious berooms and superking beds with 4 bathrooms. The main living room with large tv was very comfortable and accommodated 8 of us, and we really enjoyed the log burner (with an extra TV/ living room for fewer people). We used the kitchen for every meal (bar one) during our Fri-Mon stay. The kitchen was spacious and the table was plenty big enough for the 8 of us. The location was great - well located for visiting Cotswold towns. The manager Andy was very responsive and communicated very well.

On arrival we as a group of 8 found the house not as expected for a 5 star listed property. Both front and rear entrance steps / ramp were covered in green slippery lichen which with a disabled person in tow was difficult. We had to clean the steps as best as we could. Had to request a handle to assist access to the kitchen which was fitted a couple of days later. Overall felt like it has been sometime since the house was cleaned thoroughly or decorated. Signs of mould in the WC off the lounge and the lock was broken. We like to cook when we stay as a group as well as eat out however the electric range was a real challenge and is probably not suitable for a rental property. We even had to purchase a decent frying pan as the only one at the house was warped and didn’t sit correctly on the hot plate. The floor in the lounge where the tiles met the carpet was very uneven causing a couple of us to trip / stumble. Some of the upstairs floors were equally uneven as well making it awkward around the beds. We made the most of our stay at the house and enjoyed the Cotswolds area. I would suggest the letting agents visit the property and review the 5 star rating.
