The location of the property is good - a short walk along the high street to shops and pubs - and a main selling point for us is access to the Hydroâs leisure facilities. There is lots of parking and good breakfast options.
We had stayed here before a couple of years ago and enjoyed our stay so much that we returned. Unfortunately this time we were in a tiny, tiny room (had to take it in turns to move around the bed/to access the wardrobe/the kettle and only one bedside table). The window didnât open more than an inch and the weather was warm and the towel rail (only heating source in room) couldnât be turned off. TV didnât work, which didnât bother us, but leaves a bad impression. Unbeknownst to us we had booked a weekend where a wedding was taking place - I do wish hotels would alert guests clearly not part of the wedding party that there will be a wedding blaring âCome on Eileenâ, âWake Me Upâ, an âIâm Still Standingâ etc until midnight. We would have booked elsewhere had we known. The rooms are tightly packed in the corridors so we could hear everyone coming and going and there was brilliant light shining under the door and around the doorframe all night long.
Staff when we saw them were pleasant enough but they were obviously so rushed and overwhelmed we could never find anyone on reception.
The breakfast was okay: full fry had bits overcooked (sausage, potato scone, hash brown), undercooked (tomato and mushrooms) but overall I suppose edible enough.
The Hydro leisure facilities are starting to look a little tired and so many kids you canât consider it a relaxing spa experience anymore. Steam Room out of order when we were there.
This hotel is in a great spot for heading out and enjoying the town and weâve enjoyed staying there in the past, but I canât see us coming back after this experience. Great for a casual single night or a business trip, but not a romantic weekend or chilled couple of nights away which is what we were hoping for.
