Great value for money, day bath onsen just next door and the dinner was delicious.

Really cute cozy place, had that traditional Japanese guesthouse vibe, also really good value for money. You can order dinner every night if you want, the meal was super delicious, wish I didn't only find out about it on my last night :D
Only had one western style toilet and it was proper freezing in the bathroom at night. But not such a big problem overall.

Towada backpackers is good value for money and very close to Lake Towada. It doesn't offer GF breakfasts, so I used the small kitchen upstairs. Be warned, there is only a small corner shop in the town, that only has the very basics. I couldn't find paracetamol for example. It is right next door to a hotel with a fabulous onsen that you can access for ¥500. I never had to use the backpackers' bathroom for that reason! I had hired a car, and there was ample parking out the front. Public transport is patchy, so I would recommend hiring a car.
There were no options for a GF breakfast. Some rice would have been fine.
