Villa Borobudur Resort

The Sagara vista pool was spectacular and crystal clear, large courtyard and the views. Sonar hill is so peaceful. The resort is really clean and well maintained. Seamless access throughout the complex. If I had room in my luggage I would have purchased one of their kimonos they are so beautiful.

Hot water was intermittent, staff were very friendly and helpful however, communicating in English was a little challenging. Consider ear plugs as the call to prayer is loud and comes from many directions.

The location was absolutely incredible and so beautiful. We stayed in the wooden villa and loved spending our evenings sitting on the verandah, watching the sunset over the volcano. It was incredibly peaceful, and we had so many “pinch me” moments throughout our stay. We often felt like we were almost the only guests there, and having the swimming pool to ourselves was such a special bonus — it made the whole experience feel incredibly private and relaxing. I also highly recommend doing the private Andong tour in the afternoon. It was genuinely one of the highlights of our entire month-long trip through Java and such a memorable experience. The setting, scenery and overall experience were incredible. We also really appreciated the help with organising our tours, bookings and transportation. Our driver who took us to our next accommodation after check-out was especially lovely — he was incredibly kind, attentive and really looked after us. It was such a lovely way to finish our stay!

The staff were friendly and welcoming overall, however, there were a few areas where we felt the communication and organisation could have been improved. At check-in, we weren’t given any information about the hotel, facilities etc. Our passports were scanned and we were asked to sit and wait until someone showed us to our room, but we weren’t given any information about breakfast, the hotel facilities, or where things were located. A little more information at check-in would have made the arrival experience much smoother. Prior to arriving, I had also booked several tours and experiences through the hotel. There had been quite a few messages and confirmations back and forth beforehand, so we expected these arrangements to be on file. Unfortunately, when we arrived, none of these bookings were mentioned and there seemed to be some uncertainty about them, including a booking we had made to celebrate our 10-year anniversary. When I followed this up, I was asked to contact a number via WhatsApp. After several messages, everything was eventually confirmed, but it would have been much easier if these arrangements had been communicated to the relevant staff before our arrival. Another example was when we wanted to watch the sunrise over the volcano. Before arriving, we asked the hotel about arranging a car, but were instead recommended to watch the sunrise from their private “Sinar” Hill, which sounded like a lovely alternative. The day before, we asked how we could access Sinar Hill and were told that someone would be waiting for us at 5am to take us there the following morning. Unfortunately, when we arrived at 5am, there was no one there. We waited and walked around for around 30 minutes before eventually finding another staff member who was able to show us how to get there. Better communication between staff and clearer information at check-in would have made our stay much more enjoyable and would have helped avoid some unnecessary confusion and stress.

Very beautiful and confortable hotel with own genuine and charming identity. Room (Sidartha suite) is very nice. Each room has a really pleasant view on valley. Exceptional swimming pools, very calm and where you can also enjoy the views. Hotel offers free transportation to city center and Borobudur on demand (no fixed timetable) and this is a real advantage considering the hilly access. Breakfast and dinner are good. You can also order snacks around the pool. Massage of good quality.
