I have been staying at the Mermaid for 20 years because it is close to the airport and walking distance to 3 of the ferry piers to Koh Phangan. Therefore, its location is excellent for transferring between KS and KP. I sometimes stay over an extra night. The rooms are good, everything works ok, some with AC some with fan. The beach-side rooms are probably nicer as you have direct access to the beach and 2 swimming pools. The flight path to the airport is almost above the hotel but the rooms are quiet and overnight there are no flights. In my experience, staff always try to help but sometimes my Thai and their English is insufficient to get the answer I am looking for. Be patient. All said, I will carry on using Samui Mermaid as my stop over hotel in KS.
Prices are going up but that is understandable with increasing tourism. KS and KP are noticeably busier. Also, I found the information coming back on my booking unclear and my request for twin beds didn't materialise. Booking.com - maybe look at the level of detail provided. Sorry if it was me who missed the information.

Lovely quiet, clean place on the beach.
Great staff and food at the ocean front restaurant.

Good to stay at if you are just coming into Koh Samui! Great for a night whilst you find your feet.
As we opened the window, it literally fell out and smashed, not entirely sure how but we spoke to the reception straight away and without a quibble they moved us immediately, staff are exceptionally warm and provide a professional manner
I would not book this place if you are sensitive to noise, the planes literally fly over the resort, it’s very loud, if you’re not fussy like us it’s fine, it actually was quite funny how loud it was, we couldn’t stop laughing.
Also be aware that MOST of the lodges are on the other side of the road (without a view of beach etc….) which isn’t clear when you’re booking.
