The building is iconic and the tour when we arrived was great. The bedroom was large and had a stunning view across the river, the room was clean and they had a cute turndown service with small details such as complimentary waters and little cakes, the products in the bathroom are also lovely. The bar does fantastic cocktails too and offers great views! Location is about a 40min walk to downtown along the river, but we also found the bus easy or its a €8-10 cab ride to most central spots.
Despite the history of the building and the views, its not a 5 star hotel. The indoor pool area needs some updating, it was not very clean and you can smell the humid air and mould building up, with a little refresh it could be really great. We didn't use (or see anyone else) the spa so cant comment on this - but its very very expensive for what we saw. The restaurant though is terrible, below average quality but packaged as premium. It was by far the worst and most expensive food we found in Porto. The staff are lovely but they seem to all run around to do a bit of everything, always a bit low on numbers. Overall the building really is stunning and worth a visit, but it feels as if they are saving money at every corner, and at the end its a 3 star experience at a 5 star price.
