Hotel Barátság

The staff was friendly and helpful, even if they spealk mostly hungarian. The hotel is quite large and has a enough pools to accomodate enough people. We especialy enjoyed the outdoor pool even if it was February. Rich and variate breakfast and dinner.

The hotel looks a bit old and could use a refurbish. Wifi lagging sometimes.

This hotel is wedged halfway between oldschool and modernized in terms of vibe and style. As of August 2023 I can confirm that the hotel is air conditioned (or at least our room was air conditioned and the common areas as well), which may be important to some, as even as recently as 2022, some reviews had been written outlining the lack of A/C, which wouldn't be optimal. The interior is reminiscent of 80s/90s Hungary - not a major problem as far as I care. Main highlights are the vast options for R&R (like half a dozen pools, some specialized, one for swimming, some with thermal water, bowling, pool, aqua fitness, steam cabin, multiple variations of sauna, live music during dinner, etc...), a wide selection of dishes during breakfast and dinner (cannot say much about lunch as it was not in our package), a relatively central location, friendly, courteous staff. Close to certain they speak half a dozen languages here, so that shouldn't be an issue, but this is fairly standard for Hajdúszoboszló I presume. Thanks for having us! We had a good time.

No deal-breakers or massive red flags to share, but there are a handful of improvement opportunities. Of note, our beds were really creaking under any minor motion or movement. Not ideal if you change positions a lot while you sleep. Secondly, although the range of options is wide for breakfast and dinner (as mentioned earlier), the quality seems to vary. By far the most concerning item was the apple juice that tasted like cider. Not saying it certainly went bad, but I for one have never had apple juice with such flavour. And while I could briefly ignore the dill-based sauce instead of tzatziki on a gyro(s) plate, I was struggling to understand the service fee that was charged in the in-house beer garden. I had to go both for the drinks and for the utensils separately, as if it the venue was self-service. What exactly was the service fee for? I don't mind paying a service fee...as long as there is service...likewise, I don't mind self-service either, but I would not expect a service fee then. Confusing. Thirdly, the Wi-Fi was horrendous. I was getting anywhere between 1-3 bars - totally okay - but the overall bandwidth / speed was lackluster, further explained by the fact that connection was serviceable in the early morning, but not during the day. However, you are in for a treat if you like watching TV, there is a wagon of channels available in like a dozen languages. Lastly, the towel and robe replacement policy is not really specified anywhere. We used the same towels and robes for four days. Not great, not terrible.
