About this apartment rental

Sojourn in style in a serene palazzo setting and unlock the secrets of Palazzo Vendramin…

… An exquisite apartment expertly created within a 15th-century canal-side palazzo near the Church of Santa Fosca in the heart of Cannaregio.

Sensitively steered into the 21st century under the direction of noted Venetian architect Alberto Torsello, Palazzo Vendramin provides a calm, unruffled and historically fascinating backdrop to this exceptional Dimora Italia apartment, named ‘Varoter’ (see its dedicated description below).

Integrating chic Italian design with meticulously restored architectural details, this remarkable property offers guests a unique opportunity to sample the joys of elegant palazzo living in one of the most authentic Venetian districts in town.

Standing imposingly on the Fondamenta de Ca’ Vendramin, between the Rio di Santa Fosca and Rio del Trapolin canals, well hidden from the tourist footfall yet with an excellent variety of local amenities very close at hand, Varoter enjoys the best of both worlds.

Thought to have once been home to the large and illustrious Vendramin family (merchants trading in oil, cheese and salted meat, and producers and sellers of soap – the latter bringing them great fame and fortune over time), and representing a harmonious blend of the historical and the contemporary, the palazzo’s cavernous communal ‘androne’ hallway with majestic stone staircase and walls embellished with frescoes provides a fitting welcome at the start of your stay.

And with a nostalgic nod to a bygone era, the apartment Varoter has been named in homage to Venice’s traditional tradesmen and craftsmen, or ‘mestieri’, who in times past would have been familiar characters within La Serenissima’s labyrinth of calli and campi.

An exquisite pied-à-terre on the second floor to the front of the Palazzo (reached by lift) - large, bright and featuring a fabulously tall frescoed ceiling, Venetian terrazzo flooring, a mezzanine bedroom above, and French windows opening onto a long marble balcony overlooking the tranquil Rio di Santa Fosca Canal.

Sleeping 2 (+1) guests, its accommodation comprises –

-An entrance lobby

-An open-plan main sitting/dining room furnished with a plush double sofa bed, a pair of leather Barcelona chairs with matching footstools, and a dining suite seating 4 beneath the mezzanine above

-A well-equipped kitchenette with immaculate brushed stainless steel units

-A pristine bathroom with a traditional style bathroom suite and large modern shower

Glass balustraded staircase with wooden treads rising to

-A glass sided mezzanine, home to a double bed set upon polished wooden flooring and gazing up at the spectacular frescoed ceiling overhead!

**Are you a part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We have another apartment within the Palazzo: , Sartor .

OUR COMMENT

A beautifully furnished jewel of an apartment in a privileged position in the Cannaregio ‘sestiere’…

… A much-loved district with a traditional old-world charm characterised by peaceful residential areas, a host of historic landmarks including the spectacular fairy tale Ca’ d’Oro and the ancient Jewish Ghetto, plus long and wide canal-side ‘fondamente’ including the Fondamente de la Misericordia and de la Sensa (with their fabulous selection of local restaurants and ‘bacari’ – including our favourites Anice Stellato, Paradiso Perduto, Vino Vero and the new-ish - and characterful - bookshop-bistrot-cafe Sullaluna), plus the Fondamente Nove – Venice’s northern waterfront overlooking the waters of the lagoon towards the distant peaks of the Dolomite mountains.

Within an easy stroll of some wonderful churches including the dainty jewel-box Santa Maria dei Miracoli, the Gesuiti with its towering white façade and statues of the Apostles, and Madonna dell’ Orto - final resting place of the painter Tintoretto who lived nearby.

Close to the Strada Nova where you find shops galore to satisfy all your shopping needs! plus a well stocked Coop Supermarket at San Felice.

Convenient to 3 vaporetto (water bus) stops – San Marcuola (Casinò), Ca’ d’Oro and Madonna dell’ Orto – the latter allowing for easy travel to the beaches of the Lido and to the glass-blowing island of Murano, with connections at Fondamente Nove to the rainbow-coloured island of Burano and the island of Torcello.

Also a stone’s throw to the traghetto at Campo Santa Sofia, which during operating times, ferries passengers by gondola across the Grand Canal to the Rialto Market in the district of San Polo.

I didn't want to be in the center of tourist attractions and loved our area! We only made coffee to enjoy standing in the windows and looking at all the boats go by. I slept great, the bed was comfy and the shower hot and I loved starting the day by opening the window/doors and seeing the folks on the bridges and the boat traffic! I can't imagine staying in a hotel without the canal view. Did the water taxi and that is a must! Pay the money for the ease in your life. We had the taxi pick us up again for a Burano day. What a dream, right out the front door. Who needs a gondola ride?! Perfect 5 nights in Venice on the canal!

Spectacular property ina great location. Communication was fantastic and the check in process was as hosted and easy. The only bathroom is on the first floor while the bedroom is on the second floor loft area. This results in a lot of up and down stairs. All the finishes, furniture and decor are very high quality and the kitchen has absolutely everything you might need even for an extended stay. 10/10 apartment.

The Varoter Design Venetian Studio was a unique place to stay, close enough to the center of the city, and far enough away to escape the intense foot traffic and noise of the main areas. The place was as advertised with some quirks worth noting. There is mirror mounted to the wall in the loft that even our host noted was suspicious to many guests, as it was to us. It caused discomfort for me and my spouse as it absolutely did not fit the space, and looked translucent. It was weird and suspicious. Additionally, a local ordinance prohibits using any heat until October 15th, and a little heat was needed, making the place uncomfortably cold all the time with no remedy. The staircase is amazing hardwood, but steep and with a modern glass railing. Cool to look at, but not for anyone who is not agile and fit to navigate it.With that, it was a good place to venture from with a water taxi pickup/dropoff at the hotel next door making access to/from the train station and anywhere else easy. With so many options to stay in Venice, we would make another choice next time, but wou.
