About this house rental

This spacious, elegant, lakefront log home sits tucked away on a secluded 56-acre mountain retreat, surrounded by hundreds of acres of state-owned and protected forest and rolling hills. The house looks out onto a beautiful, private 7-acre lake where you can swim, boat and fish. After grilling up your dinner on the oversized deck, relax in Adirondack chairs at the lakeside fire pit and watch the stars come out with only the sounds of crickets, frogs, and the occasional owl to keep you company. Situated midway between Woodstock (yes, that Woodstock!) and Cooperstown (home of the Baseball Hall of Fame), Spruce Lake Farm is 5 minutes from the farming village of Bovina Center, 10 minutes from a premier 18-hole golf course, and 15 minutes from supermarkets, antique shops, fine dining and boutique shopping in the lovely towns of Andes and Delhi. Children will love the tree house, play set and beach, adults will love the total peace and quiet, and everyone will love the stand-up paddleboards, kayak, row boat and numerous forest trails. We also have plenty of technology including high-speed FiOS internet and broadband WiFi, two smart HDTVs, and a Marshall sound system.

Main level: The main level of this six bedroom, four bathroom house has a wonderful open floor plan and provides the perfect space for enjoying meals, entertaining and relaxing by the huge stone fireplace. The ceilings here are 35 feet high with rustic beams and views of the lake, and overhead is a spacious loft which serves as a library, office and reading area. Also on the main level are the kitchen and dining area, a log-walled bedroom with adjacent full bathroom, a TV room, and an airy sunroom and library area as you enter the house.

Upper and lower levels: The upper level of the house has three bedrooms, one of which includes a loft for extra sleeping space, and two full bathrooms. The lower level boasts a huge master bedroom with en suite full bathroom, and leads out onto a beautiful stone patio overlooking a flower rock garden. The lower level also includes a rec room with ping pong table and foosball table, and a laundry room with two sets of high-efficiency washers and dryers.

Play area and lake: The play area has a tree house and bench swing. The lake has a small sandy beach, two stand-up paddleboards, a kayak and a row boat. Life jackets for adults and children, as well as beach toys, are available for all.

Take walks along our private half-mile driveway and through the manicured pine forest across the lake. Numerous hiking and biking trails and dirt roads are available on the surrounding hills, as well as throughout the valley below. The Catskill Scenic Trail is a flat, gravel rail-to-trail system that starts at the bottom of Scutt Mountain and runs alongside the Little Delaware River to the scenic town of Stamford. A nature preserve run by the local college is only 10 minutes away. Local maple syrup, honey and jam are available along many nearby roads.

We've been trying to rent this property for several years for our annual hiking trip, this is our 20th year.. We finally got it, and the group was not disappointed. The place was secluded, but towns are close enough to make a short trek if we needed something. Everything is well noted in the home, and everything was provided. We had hoped to capture the peak foliage at this beautiful setting, but it was past its peak. Adam was very responsive and helpful. We usually do not stay at the same location, but we may at some point in the future as the group really loved the setting.

What a find! Our family thoroughly enjoyed our week at Spruce Lake. It was beyond amazing- private property and lake with crystal clear water, meant kayaking and paddle boarding, and fishing, too. We grilled most every dinner and celebrated a family member’s birthday! Ping Pong and foosball were enjoyed by many! Each night was capped off by a roaring fire in the fire pit. Took advantage of location to go hiking and birdwatching. Being away from city lights allowed us to see the Milky Way and marvel at the wonders of our universe. Sad to pack up and leave. Can’t wait to return. Thank you, Adam.

This property has a lot of great reviews but we were disappointed with our stay. The house needed a good scrubbing as many floors and surfaces were sticky. It was also very hot on the main floor without enough screens in the doors and windows and a few doors taped shut for some reason. The house has terrible air flow and no AC. There were also a few maintenance issues such as a broken back door which needed to be replaced and many large potholes in the driveway. We brought up some other issues with the owner and he was responsive and helpful .The place has a lot of potential but overall it needs some work to be a 10 out of 10.
