About this apartment rental
This apartment was formerly the private quarters of the 14th Earl and Countess of Lauderdale and most recently was used as the castle nurseries. It has been exquisitely restored into a three-bedroom apartment, perfect for small groups and families. Accessed by one of the castle’s grand sweeping staircases, its position on the second floor means there are extensive views of the parkland from the large full height windows.
A dramatic colour scheme has been used throughout to compliment the statement items of furniture and paintings that have been borrowed from the castle collection.
The coral walls of the master bedroom highlight the vintage-style bed hanging. Original bedheads from when the castle was used as a hospital in the First World War complete the room. The bold colours and intricate Schumacher ‘Chiang Mei Dragon’ fabric in the second bedroom offers a nod to the castle’s links with Asia. The high ceilings throughout the apartment enable a grand four poster bed to be used in the third bedroom.
The main reception room is dominated by a large gilt mirror that until recently hung in the State Drawing Room of the castle. The chandelier casts a soft light over the portraits and the bespoke wallpaper panels featuring designs from an historic antique tapestry. Watch the sunset in the evening over the parkland from the large west-facing bay window.

Just 10-minutes walk from the charming town of Lauder, the apartment is within easy reach of a number of local shops, pubs and a restaurant. Situated on the Southern Upland Way, there are plenty of opportunities for walks in the beautiful Scottish Borders Countryside from Thirlestane Castle. All guests get complimentary passes to the castle and a number of options to enhance your stay are available including food hampers and spa treatment packages.

We could not believe our eyes when we walked into the stunning apartment within the Castle. The decor, the views, the warmth, it was everything that we could have wished for plus more! The town of Lauder is pretty and recommended pub and cafes were excellent. Even though it was cool and misty the views and experience is something we will treasure forever. which was a lovely tAbbey.

Thirlestane Castle was a delightful stop on our tour through the UK. It was so peaceful and well appointed that we canceled our other plans to stay on the property and walk through the nearby village. Amanda was proactive and responsive, everything was clear and tastefully done. Our group of 6 was sad to leave.
