It was after a long, exhausting season that we finally bit the bullet and booked a little getaway. Somehow, all three of our kids had the week off and no commitments—which, with teens and young adults, feels nothing short of miraculous. Only 45 minutes from home, this trip was everything we needed it to be: low stress, low planning, and deeply refreshing. The place itself was just perfect. Quiet, right on the beach, with ferries gliding past, great restaurants nearby, and beds that were actually comfortable. The house was bigger than many people’s homes, yet felt warm and beautifully decorated. It was tucked away just far enough that through traffic wasn’t an issue, but close enough that you could wander up the hill for a famous vanilla slice or ice cream (if dairy’s your friend!) or browse higher-end shops with clothes you don’t see everywhere. Our youngest son brought a mate and they made the most of the beach, the shops, and the games we’d packed. Our eldest stayed behind to look after the dog. Our daughter, who is rarely available, came and loved it too—which made it even more special. Most of my time was spent with my husband, who was recovering from surgery. Sitting on the wide balcony together, we drank in the view, the sea air, and the delicious smells wafting from nearby Italian and woodfired restaurants. My senses felt spoiled. As a writer needing a break from admin and demands, I chased the sun from one balcony to another, to the big meals table—each space offering fresh peace and perspective. Four nights somehow stretched into what felt like a week, in the best possible way. We even managed to catch up with friends, watch the grand final, and simply rest. Thank you to our host Tanya, who went over and above. This stay gave us exactly what we didn’t know we so badly needed. Reasons to say yes! Hmm.... I hesitate to mention this, but I like to go in eyes wide open. There were some early morning/late night garbage trucks on our first night. We reached out to Tanya, and she followed it up with the rubbish company - if this had been a nightly problem, we would probably have cut the trip short. Thankfully it was just the Thursday night, and honestly, could have been a one off situation. There was a distinct lack of technology and massive TVS - just one medium sized telly - We found this wonderful! But those who value that stuff, might not like that aspect. It can get windy on the front balcony - but I brought a knee blanket with me, and enjoyed the whole experience of it. There are stairs to access the property - which some may struggle with.

The apartment was very spacious (two living areas in addition to kitchen/dining). The huge veranda with stunning bay views. Comfortable beds. Very quiet even though it is right next to the pub. Easy walk uphill to restaurants and shops. Overall fabulous.

Washing machine/dryer needed cleaning.

The location was perfect. A view over the water and such an easy walk to restaurants and the shops. (we could sit at the cafe and watch everyone driving around Sorrento looking for a parking spot). The apartment had character and plenty of space for us all. We did the Artists' Trail and could see the building in pictures from early 1900s, wonderful to be able to stay in an historical place.

There wasn't anything we didn't like. I'm not sure if there was an option for a double bed in the second room, but as we had a teen we were happy with singles. May be worth checking if you are booking as couples.
