Really friendly lovely staff meet you on arrival. The building has a warm lovely character with lots of timber & a tiny courtyard garden. It’s central but in a quiet location. Next door to an onsen.

Kitchen could be better, but it was fine for the basics.

The staffs are friendly. The room is really clean and comfy

none. It was excelent!

Spacious, modern bunks. Fairly close to train station, very close to lots of restaurants/bakeries/the old town.

While they do clean every day, the top floor bathroom smelled a lot of pee. There was also a lot of hair on the ground in the dorm rooms and stairwell.

The hostel is in a decent location, not far from the main station. The space is clean. It has an interesting layout, and everything seems to be well thought out. The kitchen area is nice and offers a place to relax as they have a projector to watch movies and shows. There is also a small library for reading and some desk seating too. They have two cats. The bunks are also large in terms of height. I was able to fully stand up so it helps to not make the space not feel claustrophobic.

1. The lack of hospitality at check in was absolutely disgusting. I had travelled for 7 hours to arrive in Toyama - arriving at 1pm, after having walked from the station in the pouring rain. I know check in is at 4pm but I came to the hostel anyway hoping to leave my bag somewhere secure and dry off for a bit before deciding what to do before check in. I hadn’t even been inside for 2 minutes before I was told I had to leave. I asked why? (I’ve never not been able to sit inside the hostel before check in) I explained it was raining badly (which you could see from the windows) I was told again I can’t stay here because my check in wasn’t until 4pm. When I asked where I could go I was told “you can go back to the station and wait there” I was shocked. I left, angry and disappointed that I had been treated that way. I understand that they have rules, but I wasn’t asking to access other spaces. I just wanted to sit down and dry off for a bit but I wasn’t even allowed to do that. 2. I know all hostels in Japan have cleaning hours during the day, but just after 10am they come into the dorms and start hoovering which doesn’t make sense, because they haven’t even cleaned out the vacant beds. I think they do it to wake everyone up so they can leave so they can clean. It’s so strange. And again, a horrible approach to ensuring guests comply with their rules. 3. They also make you sign a form before check in to ensure you are again complying with their rules. I’m a female, but in the rules they request that men sit down to pee otherwise the restroom gets too dirty and they’d have to clean it. God forbid they’d need to maintain cleaning standards in a bathroom???? 4. The WiFi sucks. 5. Check out is at 10am and if you need to hang around you have to pay 500¥ which isn’t a lot, but I’ve never stayed anywhere, hotel or hostel, in Japan or any other country, that makes you pay to just sit inside after check in.
