The apartment is on 1st floor (or 2nd floor in American terminology) with a outdoor terrace with sea views - lovely to sit out on in the cooler parts of the day. Restaurants and bars close (there's a pizza place immediately downstairs, but not open every day), but there are also cooking facilities, pots/pans etc, in the apartment. Excellent location for Valley of the Temples (less than 10 mins drive) and associated arch. museum, which were our main reasons for visiting the Agrigento area. The cathedral and associated diocesan museum in Agrigento are also well worth a visit and perhaps 20 mins drive - the cathedral doesn't seem very well known or busy compare to many other Sicilian churches, but is quite large with lots of interesting features from the middle ages to the baroque, and the museum is very nicely laid out. San Leone itself is very much a beach town and not particularly historic, but it's pleasant enough with a nice palm-lined promenade. The apartment is very close to the beach - the bit I swam from just E of harbor was nice enough in terms of sandy shallow entry to water and just a couple mins walk, but a bit dirty on beach itself. We found beach a bit nicer, with much more extensive sand and few people, just W of Porto Empedocle, also a short drive. We didn't however investigate the main beach area of San Leone a bit further E. For those interested in birds Naro point is a short drive to E - I had Kentish Plover, Audouin's Gull, Bee Eater, and Squacco Heron among others (early June). Parking on street between apartment and the beach is free with plenty of spots available (in early June - might be busier in peak season?).

Not really a complaint, but it was bit hard to find because (1) I hadn't printed out a sufficiently detailed map to take with me and (2) I failed to realize that Marco Polo vacation house would be located on top of Marco Polo Pizza. Once you realize (2) and know the entrance is from the alley at the back it's easy!

Il bagno necessita di lavori di ristrutturazione. Doccia molto piccola. Disposizione strana della cucina che si trova vicino al bagno e lontana dal frigorifero. Mancava uno stendino per appendere i teli e i costumi bagnati.
