A horrendous, and ultimately extremely expensive, experience with Booking.com

Location would have been fine but we didn't bother staying after discovering cockroaches

The four of us had travelled around 500 miles, by car, to arrive around 18:00. The arrangement we agreed with the host was that we would call 15 minutes before arrival to let him know we were nearly there. We did so around 17:45 but he didn't pick up. I left a voice message. Nor did he pick up on the next 6 occasions that I called, and I left increasingly exasperated messages. By 18:30 we were getting desperate so I sent a message to Booking.com via their 'contact us' facility informing you of our predicament and asking for you to arrange alternative emergency accommodation. You didn't reply!!! The host (or his/her representative) eventually appeared around 18:45, made some feeble excuse about tending to other properties, and showed us into the apartment. The first impression was OK though there was a strong smell of stale cigarette smoke. After he left we decided to prepare the ready-meals we had brought for our evening meal. It was then that we spotted a cockroach!! Hoping it was an isolated case we ate at the dining table. We then spotted another roach on the wall beside us. We quickly finished eating and opened up the dishwasher to clean the crockery we had used. A dozen or so more cockroaches scurried out. At this point we decided enough was enough and packed up, booked two rooms in the nearby Mercure Hotel at a cost of £247.81and left. I would appreciate it if Booking.com would consider reimbursing the cost of this awful experience but given that they didn't respond to me request for emergency accommodation I don't suppose they will.

All the little Details: - far from clean - no Shower-Curtain - no kind of Soap or anything to that Use whatsoever - not even half a Roll TP... This Place desperately needs TLC!!!

It was good enough for 2 female friends and our 16yrs sons.

I call the host and he met me to handle the keys. He doesn't speak English, but he did try his best. It was an additional parking behind the other building. When we're there, there was a fair at that moment, so our boys (3 x 16 years) could go every evening. There's a bit place too where they can play "small football" so they didn't have to stay inside the whole time when we're back to the place, playing on their phones ;-)

There were not enough pots and pans for 5 persons, so I had to buy one in the store. There was only 2 towels. None of the light in the both rooms worked. We've tried to change it, but then we saw that the cable worned out.

Free parking & well located for Abbeville centre. The flat complex was really quiet and the flat is a good size.

Lack of info meant we didn't know how to find the car park. Be aware the owner expects you to ring with an accurate arrival time but despite this still turned up at least 30mn late & unconcerned. Flat has no soap and not enough towels. Double bed is old and uncomfortable.

Not exactly superior apartment in Abbeville

The apartment is conveniently situated and quite spacious. It was clean.

There were a number of problems, particularly with electrical appliances which should be addressed before the apartment is let out again. The heated towel rail in the bathroom was not working. Only 2 towels were provided for 3 people. The light above the sink only came on for a second. The hairdryer didn't work. In the lounge the uplighter lamp didn't work and the TV remote needs new batteries. In the twin bedroom one of the sockets and a lamp didn't work. The bedding provided was not sufficient for the cold temperature.

2 bedrooms suited us as we were 3 adults.

Very large family apartment. Large windows from lounge with views of the garden. We phoned host when we arrived and he was with us within a few minutes. Off street parking was available. We used it as a stop off driving from Brittany. Ideal as just a few minutes from the motorway and then just 72 miles from Calais. Will definitely use again.

Cuisine avec des cafards dans les placards. Cheveux des hôtes précédents par terre. Salle de bain un peu vétuste mais fonctionnelle. Le propriétaire ne doit pas beaucoup faire le ménage entre les visiteurs. C’est dommage car l’appartement est spacieux et bien équipé. Un coup de nettoyage et une désinfection ça serait un très bon rapport qualité prix. Mes amis ont préféré dormir à l’hôtel à côté.
