I liked the isolation most of all. No light pollution or the sound of traffic. Amazing breakfast and dinner - definitely the best I've had in my travels across Japan. Oishikatta desu! The ferruginous (iron) onsen was soothing and left a warm feeling in my skin throughout the night. The location is great for those planning to hike Mt. Asama.

The hiking trail starts at the pension. Dinner and breakfast was really good. Most comfortable futon I’ve experienced so far. Onsen is great and special.
Jumping spiders everywhere, even dead ones in the onsen. To me, that keeps me from relaxing. But if you don’t mind spiders, it’s a good place.
