About this house rental
Get away from the crowds! Private, secluded upscale waterfront cottage on ~5 acres; pool & hot tub feet from the back door. Waterviews from most rooms. Direct Chesapeake Bay access on property via dock or sandy kayak launch. ~15 mins from downtown. Fish & crab from dock, kayak, take in the views from the screened porch or relax by the pool, fire pit or hot tub with a drink. Bring your boat - marina ~4 miles away - put-in there & tie-up at our pier! A true private retreat!
Gorgeous sunrises and abundant wildlife await you in the morning as you look over the bay from the dock or the porch. Pull a kayak directly into the bay via the sandy launch area.
Modern amenities with fast Internet and WiFi, as well as Sonos to power music on the porch or pool area. Internet-enabled smart TVs (one in den; one in master) with availability to stream movies or your favorite TV shows at night.
There are multiple kayaks, a crab pot, a charcoal grill, a fire pit and 2 adult bikes for your use. The pool is open from mid-April / May 1st - October 30th (dates can be moved to open earlier or close longer by request). The pool is not heated. There is also a hot tub that is open year-round. Both the pool and hot tub are professionally maintained. Horn Harbor Marina is ~4 miles away. Feel free to put-in your boat at the marina and tie-up for your stay.
A few notes:
The Food Lion in downtown Mathews offers the pre-order / pickup version of InstaCart. Order directly from the InstaCart app on your way in and pickup at Food Lion on your way to the Cottage....eliminates the dreaded post-unpacking 2 hour grocery store run.
There is a lacrosse goal and a basketball hoop on property. Given the propensity for gear to "grow legs" we ask that you bring a basketball and / or lax sticks & balls with you if you'd like to play.
There are outdoor security cameras on property. One covers the pool while the others cover the parking areas and look out at the Chesapeake Bay / our pier.
Our pool folks generally come on Thursday or Friday. Our lawn folks generally come on either Thursday or Friday as well. There will very occasionally be other maintenance folks on property should an item need repair or upkeep work.

Property was beautiful and very well maintained. Cottage was cozy and well stocked with everything you would need. Cottage was also very clean. We very much enjoyed the outdoor amenities. Very quiet and a wonderful place to stargaze! We very much enjoyed our stay and would come again!

This was a perfect getaway for my husband and I. Fantastic pool, access to the bay, crabbing and fishing.

This is our second visit to Lori’s home. It is such a beautiful property and the house is comfortable and inviting. It is spotless and has almost everything you need to cook and clean up.
We love the pool and the hot tub. We went kayaking and watched the sunset on the dock. It is perfect.
We will be back next year!

I spent a lot of time lusting over this listing last summer, and was thrilled to finally spend a few days here. It is a beautiful property that offers so much to do outdoors. Even with unfortunately soggy weather a couple of the days we were there, we still spent the vast majority of our time outside. While inside, we took advantage of board games and movies. I love the surrounding area and towns but will note that it is a conservative area without a lot of diversity (we are a family of color though and generally felt comfortable). The property owner has a fantastic guidebook and I'll add two of my family's must dos while in the area: the small local beach Haven Beach and Short Lane ice cream which requires a drive to Gloucester but is probably my favorite ice cream store of all time. All in all, a great visit and we look forward to renting this property again in the future.
