Douro Riverside Apartments

The view to the river is fantastic, I am originally from Vila Nova de Gaia and my fiance from Wales so he wanted to experience the sunset from the bridge and the night life between Cais and Ribeira. He couldn't have chosen better. Comfortable apartment with all necessary to spend the night and more. The hosts comunication is super informative and detailed, I highly recommend!

Nothing to point out apart from the steps to the apartment. We had no issues with them but they are definitely steep and can become dangerous. I understand the whole point of the apartment is the view outside and not the decor inside, however I felt the apartment was very bare so in my opinion it could do with some artwork/canvas on the big white wall where the sofa is.

The views of Porto from Duoro Riverside Apartments are phenomonal.

Checkin problems - the parking card wasn't in the box. Could not reach the hosts via phone. The dirty laundry bags (waiting for pickup) were piled in the stairway, making it even more difficult to walk up the stairs. The stairs are dangerous (varying depths). Repairs are needed in the 3rd floor apartment (the entry door sticks making it difficult to push it open).

Location is convenient, bed was comfortable, view was nice but only accessible by sitting on high, uncomfortable bar stools in the kitchen. Bedding and towels smelled lovely and fresh. I appreciated the kettle as I'm not a coffee drinker.

Like most reviews, the stairs are steep.. Luckily I only had hand luggage and I'm reasonably fit so it wasn't an issue for me but could be if you are unfit, have large suitcases etc. Front door on the 3rd floor sticks, you really have to push it hard to open, then you're practically face to face with the fridge. The place is cramped because it's an old building. Bed was comfortable but room is skinny, you can't walk down the sides of the bed. Used glass of water still sat on the side from the person before. I didn't cook but could be cramped. Bathroom is off the main living room with the toilet facing the door, and the door doesn't close properly, so hopefully you're close as a couple :) I prefer to support family businesses and can overlook a lot of things, but this unit could do with some refurbishment. Overall, you're paying for the location and view, but even with that, it's borderline not value for money, especially knowing there's a hotel that looks 5* just behind and only a little more expensive. Had I known before, I would have stayed at the hotel instead.
