This is an amazing piece of Soviet architecture and history and it’s great to be able to stay here. Perched on the edge of a mountain, in the shadow of a lovely monastery, the views over the lake and mountains beyond are fantastic. Great for architects.
The buildings don’t look like they’ve been maintained since they were finished. The interior design is bad (garish wallpaper, old vinyl floors) and the exterior is crumbling. The bedrooms are very basic and the bathrooms grotty. It is a shame because this could be such an amazing place to stay but it needs some serious renovations. It is terrible that such an iconic building is being left to crumble away.

Amazing glimpse back in time in an incredible location between the lake and the monastery. A place you go to for an experience, to see into days gone by, not for a luxury stay.

- Obviously, the location is great
- Has a ‘Soviet’ feel
- Tasty food
- Heater provided
- Staff were friendly most of the time
- Pillow and mattress uncomfortable
- No proper curtains
- Maybe this is asking too much, but there’s no free drinking water
- I was not provided with a bill when checking out, so it’s possible I was overcharged for food and drinks

Historic Soviet site, classic brutalist architecture, it feels like time travel. It’s an original stay for Soviet history enthusiasts. Breakfast in the morning is basic but good eggs and tea.
Very basic amenities, not clean (especially bathroom), electric heater was dysfunctional so it got very cold overnight. WiFi is not accessible from the room.
