Chia Yuen Homestay

- spacious room and clean -2 seperate beds - breakfast is simple but sufficient and with fruit - good shower

- there is a window above the door. At night light from the hallway or neighbors is really bright (see pictures, our lights were turned off) - very noisy at night. Only 2 other rooms taken when we stayed and the other rooms made noise throughout the full night. -too expensive.

Walking access to various trailheads. Massive rooms. Responsive and helpful owner who dropped off/picked up from Shizuo and Fenqihu. Hotpot next door is great and healthy. Beautiful scenery among the tea fields.

The lady who runs this was very friendly. The location is great, you can start your hike directly from the homestay. The room was big (two double beds) and clean. There is no problem parking the car. Next door, in another homestay I guess (there are several of them in this spot), there is a little restaurant where you can get food and drinks (such as local tea) - it was great, although the opening hours were short. Remember to bring your supplies, as the village is quite far down and there is no shop, although someone came with a van and sold some food such as drinks and snacks from the van.

The atmosphere or lack of it - the breakfast room is a bit sad, and so was the breakfast (a hamburger - I’m afraid the worst breakfast we had in Taiwan). The beds were a bit hard and pillows were this kind of soft, cheap ones - but it was ok for one night. None of the above should be a dealbreaker as the location is really good (unless you find something better next door).
