Hubby and I are average size people but found the duvet and blanket were a little small and extra pillows available would have been nice. But it’s only a preference not a criticism.

room was stylish and we had everything we need, even milk and tea, Welsh cakes for arrival. some chocolates which my 10 year old was really happy about :)

bathroom needs a bit of update like shower was a bit wobbly but it was still ok for the stay, maybe something in the future to consider on less busy times to replace.

Interestingly decor,clean studio with everything I needed in it. The owners had sent me a lot of information about the are some days prior which was incredibly helpful to plan my visit.

I wouldn’t say I didn’t like it, it’s more a mention that the bathroom did not look like in the photos. It was basic but clean .

Lovely themed suite

Lovely themed suite. Had everything I needed. Very comfortable bed and temperature was very nice. Very clean and tidy. Would stay again as so close to Brecons National park.

I had a couple of issues with the TV but got there in the end. Think batteries in remote may need changing.

Perfect place to stay

This place was perfect. It's close by to shops, bus stop, a really woodland area that me and my partner enjoyed walking down and a pub. The bedroom felt cosy and warm. Me and my partner have decided we'd like to come back to this place frequently. Everything there was perfect, and we both highly recommend.

The only issue we had with this place is that due to the seasons changing, the place was a bit cold at times and could do with a heater or a rug. But apart from that, it was perfect.

There a main switch for the shower outside the bathroom that we didn’t know about and was covered by a picture that was stood in front of it So we weren’t able to have showers when we got up. We sent a message and this was rectified a few hours later but we were already out and about

Perfect Property

We have stayed at multiple James' Places over the years and are impressed every time. We did have a very small issue this time, but it was rectified immediately after notifying Angela. We'll be back in the new year!

Cosy and private.

It was so easy to locate. It was so close to the bus stops and the takeaways. There was also a pub next door with really friendly people. The place was peaceful. I love that there was double doors, made us really secured and safe.

The apartment had everything we needed and free parking. It was central to the places we visited. The bed was firm which was great for us and the apartment was clean.

Dowlais itself was small and there wasn’t much there to explore. However there are two shops and a restaurant.

Unbearably noisy. Poorly equipped. Badly designed. Decorative plastic junk everywhere.

Emily the property manager (not the owner) was very helpful over the phone. There was milk in the fridge.

This was the noisiest room I have ever stayed in. I couldn't work during the day and couldn't sleep at night, what with cars bikes and vans howling and rumbling past constantly from 5am to way past midnight. You are greeted on arrival by a disquieting stuffed fox and a clutter of "steampunk" artefacts of questionable taste. The room itself is strewn with plastic palm leaves and dusty plastic plants, while only ONE pillow per person is provided. Instead of two pillows there is a plethora of useless small hard cushions; these perhaps to use on the rock-hard sofa placed in front of the monolithic TV? There is only ONE bedside lamp, so only ONE guest can read in bed, which seems to be the most glaring oversight. The light in the bathroom is totally inadequate and the mirror is too high for short people (like my wife). Where a bathroom shelf once was there is now a hole and a nasty screw poking out. The microwave doesn't work and the TV remote is on the blink. There is a gigantic TV on a huge and totally impractible cupboard unit (instead of a useful chest of drawers) taking up space where a decent-sized table could have been provided. Instead there is a tiny circular glass table which is totally inadequate for eating or working with a laptop. Also, the table top itself has become detached, so if you lean on one side it tips up alarmingly. Whoever designed this room and chose its contents clearly did not give any thought to practicality. It takes more than a gargantuan TV and misguided design statements to make a good room. Also, it says that the guests would find "delicious Welsh cakes" waiting for them. This is misleading; there were instead two small currant biscuits, devoured in an instant by disillusioned hungry long-distance travellers.

Not a dislike as the owners made excellent use of the limited space. However, a washing machine would be useful. There was an information sheet with an offer for a local laundry service should you need it though.

It's a small studio with minimal sitting places other than the bed, works for when you are out exploring all the time, but something to be mindful of when booking.

There was a really bad smell throughout. Not sure what of but someone had tried to cover it up with lots of air fresheners but it didn’t work. The kitchen was clean but not the provided pans etc. There were bits of noodle in one pan and sticky marks on another. I had to wash everything we wanted to use up before we could use it.

The apartment was comfortable, clean, quiet and well equipped. Lots of thought and effort had gone into the decor.

Nice stay and worth the price but a few things to improve

Cleanliness, self check in and self check out, milk and chocolate provided in the kitchen and free onsite parking, kitchen had everything you need for a holiday of a few days. Room is not noisy.

Bed was squeaky and therefore we barely managed to sleep. There was only 2 small toilet rolls for a 2 night stay. Only 2 big towels and a foot towel. There was no hand towel or a towel for hair. There was body wash and shampoo but only 1/4 of the bottle was full. The body wash was just enough for 2 people for 2 nights. No functioning plugs in the bedroom, we had to use the kitchenette’s plugs to charge phones. There was an extension lead under the bed but it was not working.

Comfortable and cosy!

The beds were very comfortable, there was enough space for all 4 of us to sleep comfortably, the patio was so lovely on a sunny morning!

There was no oven and the water pressure in the shower was quite low.

Loved the studio at Dowlais

The studio at James Places is amazing I am so happy with everything from start to finish. All communication with James and Angela was brilliant and they are so friendly. I couldn’t have asked for anything more from the studio it was perfect and had everything I needed. All clean and tidy and such a fab location for exploring. I hope to be back soon
