Ming Yue Hu Hotel

The view of Sun Moon Lake is absolutely breathtaking and easily one of the best parts of staying here. The hotel is also in a great location, with a 7-Eleven, restaurants, and the pier just steps away. Having such easy access to the ferry makes exploring the lake incredibly convenient. There’s a water refill station in the lobby, and complimentary breakfast is served on the second floor. Breakfast items included a congee station with the fixings, corn chowder, cereal station, chicken nuggets and fried hot dogs, a few vegetables , a protein stir fry, tea eggs , toast, croissants, steamed buns, and a cereal bar. One of my favorite features is the bathtub next to a window overlooking the lake. Being able to enjoy the view while soaking in the tub is a really nice touch.

The hotel could use some serious improvements in cleanliness, maintenance, and service. During breakfast, we noticed staff spending time on their phones while the dining area was not particularly clean. We even found a curly hair on the fruit. Breakfast is advertised from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM, but if you arrive after 9AM, staff are already turning off the food warmers and no longer replenishing fruit or other breakfast items. Guests should be able to enjoy the full breakfast service during the advertised hours. The rooms are also quite dated. The comforter is old, and the ties securing it to the duvet cover are so worn that the comforter slips out. Housekeeping is limited to replacing towels and providing bottled water rather than thoroughly cleaning the room. Another disappointment was the lack of laundry facilities, as the hotel does not have any on-site. Overall, the hotel needs better attention to cleanliness, room maintenance, and basic guest services. The experience fell short of our expectations.

The hotel is in a wonderful position and we had wonderful views over the lake from our balcony on the 9th floor.

Breakfast was mainly Asian and there was not a great choice

The lake view is hard to beat, absolutely wonderful. This is the best pier to stay at for a more local experience, with a lively food street just behind the hotel, rather than the resort atmosphere on the opposite side. Friendly staff, spacious rooms and comfortable beds.

A very minor detail: the curtains don’t quite reach the floor, so a lot of light enters the room in the morning. This may bother light sleepers. The price is slightly above average, but the view and Sun Moon Lake’s popularity largely explain it.
