Masseria Battaglini

Charming and engaging hosts who are really interesting and interested in their guests. They looked after us so well, providing great tips for places to visit, restaurants and sharing their knowledge of the area. Nothing was a problem. The friendly dogs were a very welcome bonus:) Masseria Battaglini is an authentic and tranquil setting and experience. Historic, quintessential charm of the area, located in the beautiful countryside. Beautiful breakfast, including freshly made bread and pastries, in the early morning sun on the terrace. The terrace is also great for dinner after a trip to one of the local markets. Excellent massage on the terrace by the pool. We loved it and hope to return.

Softer beds would be lovely.

When we arrived we received a marvellous welcome from Giovanella, Giuseppe, Susan and the dogs, which made us feel special. We stayed in the Trulli apartment, there was a big basket of fresh fruit, and Susan kindly brought us a pot of tea. The first evening we enjoyed a fantastic dinner in the dining room with 4 courses of traditional local food. Giovallella is a passionate cook and even runs cookery classes during the day. Each morning Susan prepared breakfast for us with different types of freshly baked bread and cakes, eggs from their own chickens, home-made jam, etc, Do ask to try the incredible almond biscuits. Giovanella and Susan are very friendly and keen to help in any way. The Trulli apartment is very big with a double bed and 2 sofa beds, it could accommodate at least 6 people. In the evenings it was nice to stretch out on the couches and read before going to bed. And because you are out in the countryside you are assured of a quite and good night’s sleep.

At the time we booked, this was one of the most expensive apartments in the area. We expected something 5 star but (despite the friendly and helpful owners and staff) this is not. Everything works, but the small bathroom and kitchenette are dated. There is 1 toilet, which for 6 people could be an issue. When you shower you can avoid flooding the bathroom floor, but you have to take care. When my wife showered and washed her hair, there was hardly any hot water left. There are probably other properties which offer better value for money.

Giovannella hat uns regelrecht mit ihre Fürsorge und Kochkünsten verwöhnt. Der Ort ist eine Ruheoase für die Seele. Die drei Tage, die wir im Trullo verbracht haben, waren ein Traum. Wir fühlten uns wie zu Hause und haben in Giovannella und Guisuppe neue Freunde gefunden.

Wonderful location and views across the fields.

Restaurant was shut and we wasn’t informed in advance until I asked if we needed to reserve the day before arriving. This took away the whole experience of staying in a Masseria as for us after 4 days of visiting other areas of Puglia we wanted to unwind and relax without the need for going out for dinner. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case and had we known in advance we would have cancelled the booking and stayed elsewhere. Owner did arrange for a driver to take us into Martina Franca but at a cost of 50 euros so an added expense due to the restaurant being closed.
