Hortensia House

We stayed in a One Bedroom Apartment,  Apartment 36 for three nights. The host, Eleonora, provided comprehensive instructions & information via WhatsApp prior to our arrival & the check-in was contactless via key box code.  Free private parking directly outside of the apartment was appreciated as the surrounding roads were very busy & we had difficulty finding parking in other parts of Cefalu.  The apartment was compact & clean with a narrow ensuite bathroom.  Well equipped kitchenette with washing machine & bar stool seating. 

Overhead bedroom space in the small open hanging / luggage area was encroached by an enclosed staircase of the adjacent apartment & was at head hitting height. Noise from the staircase & above / adjacent apartment could be heard. Road traffic noise on the weekend was very disturbing. The ensuite bathroom requires maintenance. The folding wooden door is very difficult to open, jamming on the floor at the half open position. There are wear & scrape marks on the floor from the door being forced further open. The bathroom hand sink leaked from underneath. The toilet flush mechanism flowed continuously unless the button was jiggled until it stopped. There was only one hook to hang towels. 20-30 minute steep uphill walk from historic centre & closest beach.

La casa si trova in una posizione comoda a pochi minuti a piedi dal centro storico di Cefalù, permettendo di dimenticarsi dell'auto e girare comodamente a piedi. Il check-in in autonomia è stato semplicissimo grazie alle istruzioni fornite dall'host, che si è dimostrata molto premurosa inviandoci anche consigli sui ristoranti della zona. Il vero punto di forza della struttura è la presenza del parcheggio privato disponibile proprio davanti all'ingresso. L'alloggio all'interno è accogliente e dotato di tutto il necessario per una breve permanenza confortevole, compresa una lavatrice.

Consiglierei questa struttura principalmente per soggiorni di pochi giorni in quanto non è presente una cucina vera e propria. La dotazione per i pasti è infatti minimale e composta solamente da un forno a microonde, una macchinetta del caffè, un piccolo frigorifero e un lavello dalle dimensioni decisamente ridotte, una combinazione perfetta per la colazione o un pasto veloce ma poco pratica se si pianifica una vacanza lunga in cui si desidera cucinare piatti completi in casa.

Up a hill from the beach. Being in our 70s it was a bit of a haul home.

The property was well maintained and clean with coffee and tea facilities.

The noise of the road was impossible to ignore. Constant cars all time of the day. The walk to and from the center was difficult with the narrow paths and traffic.
