My Wife and I have just returned from Northern Portugal where we stayed at Solar do Alambique with Helena and Armindo. They were excellent hosts and we realised that staying outside the main town or city in more rural settings can greatly widen the experience of your visit.
Solar do Alambique is a very tradition hotel. Our room was nice and clean, the bed was superbly made up daily along with clean towels in the bathroom which had a super walk in shower enclosure with lots of hot water to hand.
Breakfast (not English) was of good quality with some home made items that were very good.
The lounge, TV, Dining room had coffee/ tea making facilities at hand and the panoramic views over the countryside were breathtaking.
The "Alambique" (traditional Still) is still in use and tho it is not accessible whilst in use...it was very interesting to see.
Hosts Armindo and Helena are to be congratulated on their hard work and continued efforts to make guests feel welcomed and accommodated.
We will definitely return if in the area again.
Please note. This hotel provides a rural experience. Not in the centre of a city. The location of Solar do Alambique offers so much from a location aspect.

We loved our stay. Our boys really enjoyed the pool. We loved the beautiful surroundings, the pool, the garden and the very friendly and accommodating staff and owners. The breakfast was delicious too!

Hard, uncomfortabel bed. Traffic noice.
