There was no toilet paper, bin bags or soap. The kitchen light did not working at all throughout the time I was there so cooking would have to have been in the total dark. Bulbs in the hall side light and lamp were not working. I suspect there was an electricity problem with the flat as so many electrical things were not working. The kettle was not working and I was told to go and buy a new one as the shop is nearby. The only plug socket was behind the gas ring - fire hazard. The sitting room was windowless and dark. The toilet seat was broken and paint was peeling from the tiles in the shower. The WiFi did not work. The walls were thin and you could hear next door talking and shouting. I felt not secure. The security door of the front of the building was left open when I returned and when I initially left I took the stairs down and the back side door was left open. The host took a long time to respond. I raised the problems. They were not fixed even though I left the apartment for hours in order to buy soap and loo paper - I just didn’t want to go back. Once I realised that things were not going to be fixed I felt I could not stay there. The host refused to give me a refund and spent more than two hours arguing with Booking.com. They then refused to receive the calls from booking.com leaving me to pay to sleep somewhere else - and to continue being charged for two nights that I did not stay at the apartment. It’s ridiculous that I immediately rejected the quality of the apartment and still had to pay. Booking.com said that they could do nothing unless the host agreed and that they needed up to 20 complaints before a host would be withdrawn from the platform. Even if water had been pouring through the ceiling booking.com said that they would not have been able to give me a refund unless the host agreed. This gives me no confidence that booking.com are a reliable site to use.
