Stephward Estate Country House

The hosts, Stephen and Howard, are incredibly humble and treat their guests like royalty. They accommodated an early arrival, ensuring the cottage was ready and clean. The property is stunning, with breathtaking gardens that add to the overall appeal. The owners generously provided a personal tour of their greenhouses, showcasing beautiful orchards. Stephen is not only an excellent cook but also a talented clothing designer. Breakfast was on time and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Rating on booking.com should be a 5.

Our stay was too short. Should have booked for a longer stay. That was the only negative feedback

The Hosts were excellent, welcoming, friendly and accommodating and the evening in the bar flew by with Stephen and Howard’s entertaining stories. The room was beautifully decorated, with seating area, coffee station and outside terrace. Our breakfast was delicious and we would definitely recommend a visit.

The only thing we didn’t like was the concertina door on the toilet 😆

Staff - Howard and Stephen were exceptionally accommodating with us as I had accidentally booked our stay for a week in advance and they were more than willing to amend my booking dates without hesitating once. Facilities - The property itself is absolutely beautiful, truly one of the most gorgeous places to be in Margate (I cannot stress this enough!) Their gardens and grounds make you feel like You are in some Magical Hidden Jungle. We couldn't get over how absolutely stunning the premises are! They have a true Greek vibe going with Statues for days, hidden all over their Paradise - it's truly wonderful for the Soul. Their Chapel is also located on a very beautiful section of their property above their dam. The bed was super comfortable and the complimentary soap was also awesome! We had dinner at the Estate and have to say that they put out an outstanding dinner and some very delicious wine! Definitely a 5-Star meal by far! I had the Chicken Schnitzel and my husband had the Lamb Curry. Stephen's HomeMade chillie sauces are something you have to try! Our breakfast was made into a "takeaway" meal and it was also really delicious! Everything is always cooked to perfection.

Staff - We never really interacted with Stephen (whom cooked the most delicious in-house dinner for us!) but I personally found Howard to be quite rude as he cut me off mid-sentence several times and it just felt like we were sort-of wasting his time? It made me feel uncomfortable to try and converse. There was also a misunderstanding about wanting our breakfast as a takeaway as opposed to a sit down meal. Facilities - The room we stayed in seems to have been closed up for a few months as there was a hectic smell of moth-balls and the air was stale. The decor is very outdated and sadly doesn't seem to have been maintained over the years. Our coffee jar had old/hard coffee in it. The wi-fi is unfortunately only available if you are sitting on the deck at the main building which is quite a walk to make when it is dark and some outside lighting is not working. The grounds were a bit unkempt and parking is slightly off-road which was also unexpected.
