Bungalows Katun Maja Karanfil

Location location location. This was the furthest bnb with the clearest views of Grebaje Valley. The individual huts were super cute and perfect for a quick stay for our family of 5. Cute little playground and fenced off yard for our kids to run around in after Volusnica hike. The also LOVED feeding the bunnies on the property!

The food was just ok but there are plenty of other options in the valley that you could walk to for dinner. I wouldn't let that deter you from staying here.

Maja Karanfil is the perfect place to stay if you’re planning to hike Volušnica, Talijanka, or Popadija. The location is excellent, the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the cabins are beautiful, cozy, and full of charm. There’s also a playground for children, making it a great choice for families as well as hikers. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Grebaje.

The only small downside was the Wi-Fi, but that’s understandable considering the mountain location.

Great location with an amazing view. It's easily accessible by car. Staff is very friendly and the food is good. The bungalow we stayed had a heater and a fridge.

The breakfast could have been better

Comfortable beds and bedding. Right on the base of the Three Peaks Trail. Shower was warm and decent.

Staff were not welcoming nor were they friendly, if anything we felt unwelcomed for most of our stay. One of our bunk beds had beetle larvae feasting on the wood. It's apparently quite common in the area if untreated wood is used. The beetle larvae would be particularly active at night and, though they are not a threat to humans, they are INCREDIBLY loud and irritating. I translated a message on my phone for the host to read and, to be fair, this was the most hospitable he was - he wanted to know which hut and which bed etc but there was no apology or acknowledgement that it was inconvenient and not really acceptable for guests to experience. For a place whose location is key for hikers, breakfast only starts at 8am. You cannot order breakfast ahead of time or order a takeaway breakfast to store in your fridge, which really wouldn't be hard for them to do. As there were thunderstorms in the afternoon when we visited, this actually really impacted our plans because we could not do the hikes we had planned if we started later than 8am. Moreover, when we did order breakfast, it took 45 minutes from ordering for it to be served. 45 minutes for an omelette and French toast! When it was served, I noticed white on my plate which was not part of the host's description (you are not given a menu, he speaks at you and gives three choices), and as I am pregnant and cannot eat Kajmak (which I believed it was), I inquired what it was. He very loudly and obviously then mocked me as he walked away and into the kitchen. Drains in the shower / bathroom often smelt bad. Food was not strong here. I agree with Google reviews which I have read since booking - far better to eat in one of the places further down the track instead. Service was slow and hard to get to host's attention, especially when he was in the kitchen chatting or outside with other guests chatting or smoking.
