The location and cleanliness

The room was basic but clean, it has enough beds for our family and the owner was a lovely Liverpool lady

The taps are not combined hot cold and seperate, I feel the hot tap could be a danger to small children as it gets very scorching hot for the sink 😔

I can’t explain how nice we were treated by Margaret ! She’s an amazing woman and so so hardworking and helpful ! Can’t complain about anything. Everything was amazing !!! The rooms the food omg the hotel everything amazing. My 4 boys aged 6, 11, 13 and 17 loved it ! Ie I’ll definitely go again ! Thank you

Margaret and her team were fantastic. The accommodation was clean and very comfortable. 10mins down road from Alton towers. We will definitely stay here again.

Clean room and bedding. An old house with an atmospheric restaurant. Delicious dinner and breakfast. Very friendly staff. Free parking for your car.

The road is right outside the window, and there is a lot of noise from cars at night and early in the morning. The walls are thin, and you can hear everything that is said in the neighboring rooms and downstairs in the bar. At night, it is impossible to flush the toilet because of the noise of water rushing through the pipes. There is no decent coffee at breakfast, only instant coffee.

We had 2 evening meals and breakfasts and they were delicious and very reasonably priced. The room was comfortable and very clean, with plenty of room for me and my 3 boys.

Margaret and her team are so friendly and made me feel really welcome. So much so that I booked next year's visit before leaving. The food is good quality and value. The rooms are basic but have everything you need.

The property was very dated and needed upgrading . The beds were very poor with springs which made it very uncomfortable even to sit on . There was no WiFi and the chalets were very old fashioned . We have lost all our money £300 as there is no way we could stay there . I had booked it by the reviews on booking .com which did not accurately reflect this accommodation

Outstanding location. Everyone was vey friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was excellent. Overall value was great.

Although the shower had enough hot water, pressure was low. Wifi did not reach our suite, but having everyone disconnect a bit was a plus.

Margaret was the loveliest person ever! She went above and beyond for us to which we can’t fault at all, however, there was many things that really need looked at about how the inn is run. There’s no itemised billing system, with people staying there helping Margaret out it all got very confusing, everything was down as miscellaneous which I didn’t like as we had no idea what we were paying for, the evening meal for 4 came to nearly £90 which was 3x 2 courses and 1 main course. I felt that was extremely steep and felt I had been overcharged for something. The packed lunch option was a great touch, however an itemised menu would’ve been better, again so we knew how much we were paying, we stayed here to cut costs going to Alton towers, however we found we actually paid over £200 more than staying onsite. Breakfast isn’t included in your stay which is a real shame, and because of that we feel we over payed for our chalet for what we got. The shower was abysmal with very little water to have a shower. So, really on reflection we paid £270 for a bed for 2 nights as we really couldn’t shower. The location is fantastic, but it could be doing getting cleaned up a bit, the main inn is really lovely with features from 500 years ago. Had a very very ancient feel which we loved, however, again Margaret could really be doing with a hand given her age and health, a cleaner every couple days would work. It’s a shame as the inn could be a really beautiful place with a lot going on. But a large number of really niggly things bothered us whilst staying. It’s a real shame as Margaret has put her heart and soul into it, and you can feel it. But, unfortunately I don’t think it’s enough as there’s more getting missed than not. For a 3* you would still expect menus to be correct and orders to go through, with itemised billing, it wouldn’t hurt if breakfast was included in the cost, all in all would we return?

Location is perfect for Alton Towers. Charming traditional pub with simple but clean and comfortable rooms. Great breakfast and a lovely selection of pub meals in the evening. All of the staff were very friendly, especially the owner Margaret who took a genuine interest and ensured that everything went well throughout our stay.

Knob in shower seemed to point in wrong direction could only make water luke warm. Water supply and toilet made a loud noise.

The location is stunning and within easy reach of Alton Towers

The room was extremely tired and dated although the bedding was clean. There was an awful lot of mould in and around the shower which was completely disgusting and unacceptable. I reported this to staff but they didn’t seem to be in the slightest bit concerned or apologetic.

The building was very rustic and just stunning from the outside and inside. The staff were lovely too. Margaret (the owner) was such a nice lady and we enjoyed her company down stairs in the bar. The pool table was nothing like we had ever seen before as it was a hexagon shape making it a challenge as you can not play the same way you normally would on a regular table (doubling was tough). The bar was reasonably priced and the stoned walls there were very pleasing to the eye. There was a lovely big fire in the bar which heated up the full place rather fast. We picked this place to stay after realising how close to Alton Towers it was, it didn't disappoint, we paid only £6 for an Uber to take us to the entrance. The room was very clean and tidy. The sheets were clean and smelled so fresh. There was hand soap provided in the bathroom along with a body wash in the shower. The pressure wasnt very strong in the shower although the temperature was nice and toasty the way I like it. I really can not fault this stay and can't wait until we can return! The restaurant had a good "Pub grub" menu and the double chicken burger was lovely 100% recommend to try it if your going!

The only thing we could fault this stay on was the central heating wasn't working much (the radiator wasnt completely cold) but it wasnt warm enough to heat the room however the staff had already sorted that out by providing an electrical oil heater in the room prior to our arrival which worked very fast in heating the room up.

Excellent "home cooked" food and friendly staff. Quiet location and great for using as a base to explore the local area.

Bunk bed was a little creaky, but that is about it.

The bed was the worse thing I've ever tried to sleep on, not good after driving for 6 hrs. Walls were paper thin

Great location and nice and quiet. Only a 5 minute drive to Alton Towers resort if visiting there. We ordered food both nights and had breakfast and all times was of good quality.
