Bodhi El Valle

I felt like home from the moment I arrived. There is a whatsapp groupchat for the guests to team up for hikes and other activites, there is a guidebook with all the important info about the town and what to do. Because of the big earthquake I slept both in the private room and the dorm, both were clean and very comfortable. The garden at the back is probably the highlight, there is a little herb garden, very comfy sunbeds (some of us were sleeping on them to have a little camping experience!), and a lot of wildlife. During my stay we had a sloth around for a day, plus you can see colibries, frogs, toads, and other birds. The hostel is in the heart of the town, everything is walking distance. The breakfast is amazing, better than at some hotels, they cook it fresh for you, the portions are big, and it's something different every day. All the staff members are super nice and helpful, and they basically all speak English. My stay overlapped with the big earthquake, but the staff made sure we all feel safe (although being worried themselves), and made us breakfast even though there was no electricity for days. They immediately started looking for cracks and other damage, and they offered me to stay in another room for safety reasons. Overall, I wouldn't stay anywhere else in El Valle, and I can't wait to come back one day!! Huge hugs for everyone at the Bodhi hostel!!

There were some inconveniences, but they were all connected to the earthquake, which was a special situation. It would be nice to have private bathrooms, or at least a sink for the private rooms considering the price, but when you stay in a private room you only share the bathroom with another 3-4 people, so it's not super bad. During the night I stayed in the dorm it was pretty cold with the AC on all night, but that's something that usually happens at hostels. It would have been nice to have shower gel in the bathrooms.

Everything is organized well. The location is close to the bus stops.

Location is fantastic! Nice breakfast, cooked when you sign in each morning. Really nice common areas: yoga floor, comfy lounges in garden, movie room, bar. 2 kitchens with adequate space, tools, fridge space for labelled food. Not usually “hostal” travelers and I was hesitant on the “shared” bath/shower areas, but it was really fine. We always felt we had privacy and everything was clean. Safe place. Best MOJITO EVER at the happy hour bar. Kind of a cool “hippy” vibe I’d have loved when I was younger! People really interacted: shared hikes, activity ideas, deep conversations over meals, and cooking. Really kind of a cool experience!

We had a couple of really hot afternoons and despite open window and fan, could not get room to cool down enough to sleep comfortably. Sheets and bed were fine, just too hot to sleep. Also, there was hot water, but it only lasted a couple of minutes into your shower each time. Actually, cold shower made sleep a little easier

My first time in a multi bed room. My room was jammed with beds stacked 3 high. I was 2nd level the fellow above me had a rough night and tossed and turned the whole night. The beds shook, waking me. I had to go to the common room to get a hour or 2 of sleep. Kitchen great, hot shower great, atmosphere while not in bed great.

The bed shaking and noise from moving in bed above me. I sleep easy and soundly normally.
