Maison Kronio Lassithi Plateau

First of all, it's a plateau, so it's cool at night — at the end of July on the coast it was +40°C during the day and +30°C at night, while here, despite fairly hot days, it was 17°C at night. You can actually sleep, and it was the best sleep I've had! Secondly, this is real rural Crete — in the garden/yard are growing zucchinis, watermelons, melons, cucumbers, and next to the house there's a little pen with sheeps that you can feed zucchini to. Thirdly — the hospitality of the hosts is simply boundless: the owner brought fruit, fresh bread in the mornings, and the rooms have everything you need — a fridge, a dryer, a hairdryer, and there's a decent pool with sunbeds in the yard. Fourthly — the owner is a former mountain guide and can recommend places you wouldn't even know existed — for example, on his advice we visited the Havgas Gorge and Mount Karfi. Nearby there's the very beautiful Roza Gorge, very impressive cave Dikteon Andron (must visit!) and also ancient windmills. All around are insanely beautiful views. If you look at the map, the villa is literally in the middle of nowhere, but once you actually arrive, you find yourself in a paradise surrounded by mountains on all sides — it's very calm and quiet here, the cicadas don't screech, and from the window there's a view of the highest peak of the Dikti massif — Spathi. I booked this place for one night, but I liked it so much that in the morning I extended my stay for another night. The villa is within walking distance of the village of Tzermiado, which has a few taverns, two shops, fuel station and an ATM. Just come and see!

We had a great stay at Maison Kronio. The apartment was spacious and had all that we needed. Christine and Vassilis were wonderful hosts. They provided generous breakfast each morning - eggs, fruit, yogurt, and fresh bread still warm from the bakery. It is a perfect, quiet stay in the mountains. Great for hiking.

The towels were a bit hard at first, but softened after a bit.

Maison Kronio is in an ideal part of the Lasithi Plateau which is a gem of relaxation, history and authentic Cretan life. The property is clean, easy to find, and positively beautiful. The hosts provide fresh bread every morning for breakfast, and local recommendations. They are both very kind and accommodating. I will be staying again.

It was really exceptional all around.

Very peaceful location. Our apartment was spacious and comfortable and the food provided to make breakfast was good. The view of the pool and mountains was lovely. We did two amazing walks whilst staying.
