Villa Vanessa con Piscina Privata - Castro

Overall, it’s a nice house, well located on the outskirts of Castro, with a beautiful view of the hills and the castle. We especially enjoyed the swimming pool area, which is covered from the wind (it was very windy during our stay) and very comfortable for sunbathing. Pool towels were provided, along with other linens. There is a pleasant terrace for outdoor dining, as well as enough space to eat inside if the weather is not great. It was also very affordable. We were allowed to check in early, which we really appreciated.

Even though the villa is for 16 people, it comfortably accommodates 5 couples + 2 children. Of the 7 bedrooms, 2 are in the basement (not in the photos), and one of these has only a very small window near the ceiling. These rooms were humid and not very pleasant to stay in. Hot water was also an issue. It is heated via solar panels, which was insufficient for our group of 15. We ended up taking cold showers until the manager came to switch on the boiler, which took some time to resolve. Overall, many things felt on the cheaper side: the hand soap was diluted, our room had two half rolls of toilet paper, and although coffee capsules were provided, they were incompatible with the machine. At one point, the manager came to turn the boiler off when she thought there was enough sun, but we had to turn it back on as the water did not warm up. Guests are also required to take large recycling bins up a steep slope to the street each night for recycling - not exactly something you want to do during your holiday. The house does not have an indoor lounge or living room, so during colder evenings the only options are to sit around the dining table or stay in your room. The swimming pool also had black sand on the bottom. While we paid a relatively low price, the property is marketed as “luxury” with branded linen, so we expected a higher standard.

We loved how spacious all the bedrooms were - each equipped with a double and en-suite. Ideal for a large party of couples. The space is communal and great for socialising either in the kitchen, on the patio, or near the pool. Charming views across the valley down to Castro with idyllic sunsets. Very quiet setting with a very manageable walk to the town (though the roads require a little caution to walk on).

The kitchen had plenty of gear, but we felt there could have been a slightly wider collection of utensils and drinking vessels. As others have said, an inside chill space/lounge would be ideal, but appreciate that the villa isn’t set up that way for a reason.

The B&B is situated close to Castro Marina, which is a nice location.

The breakfast could have been better, not everything was fresh.
