Good accommodation with a lovely pool. Family rooms were of a good size and helpful staff. Pool was fabulous with loungers and bar if needed. Breakfast was a very good buffet style. Very near top end of Mirissa beach with nice restaurants and bars. Each walk to Hidden (watch as money was stolen from our bag there) and Secret beach too.

A little run down but no issues

We stayed in a standard double room at Handagedara Resort and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was tastefully presented, clean, and very comfortable, offering a calm and relaxing retreat. The swimming pool and beautifully maintained gardens added a lovely touch of luxury and made the property feel peaceful and refined. Considering the quality of the stay, the price was excellent value. A special mention to Priyanga, the owner, whose warmth and genuine hospitality truly elevated our experience. He looked after us with great care and attention. A wonderful place to unwind—highly recommended for a relaxing getaway.

Great location, only 5 mins walk to the beach and other restaurants. Pool was lovely and clean and we have enjoyed it every day. Delicious breakfast, very friendly staff and would go extra mile to make you happy. It was out daughter birthday during our stay and she had table decorated for the breakfast with birthday card and cake.

Reception was friendly. The hotel is close to beautiful beaches and the city center. The rooms are spacious and comfortable.

We had a decent stay, but expected more given the four-star rating and high review scores. During our trip through Sri Lanka, we realized that Booking.com ratings aren’t always reliable for some hotels. Some hotels (including this one) seem to “buy off” negative experiences by cancelling bookings after guests leave or offering discounts in exchange for a cancellation. That happened here too. We’re not complainers, but a series of small issues is worth mentioning: the room wasn’t ready upon arrival (after 3 PM), there was loud construction noise by the pool while we came for rest, the air conditioning barely worked, breakfast was minimal, and the fruit had been left out in the heat unchilled. Staff tried to fix some things, but what stood out was the owner’s offer the next morning: she proposed cancelling our booking in exchange for a discount (first $15, then $30) to prevent us from leaving a review. We declined, but it didn’t feel right that hotels try to silence negative reviews this way. You can’t post a review if your booking is cancelled, even if you stayed. I hope Booking.com addresses this practice, as it undermines trust in the platform that we so often and happily use. For this hotel: an okay stay, but with a bitter aftertaste.
