The whole place was poor

It was kept in beautiful condition downstairs. The room was clean and adequate and had some lovely complimentary items such as shampoo, soaps, teas & coffee. The staff was lovely and helpful. We received a lovely welcome.
It was quiet downstairs. We had intentions to end our evening out on the town at our own accommodating pub, but sadly not one single person was in it apart from the solitary bar staff … and it was Saturday night! When everywhere else was busy. It was so sad to see such a historic pub hollow. When everything about it felt so inviting, including the ghostly tales we were told and experienced! Perhaps the owners should consider utilising its history for promotion…

Location, was centreally located in town.
Did not include parking and was expensive and inconvieniate to park a car, bathroom altho was for our use only was located across a hallway, Bathroom shower rail was loose and hanging down and came apart if you pulled on the curtain.

Friendly greeting, pub downstairs meant there was someone on site if there were any problems (though there weren't any) Everything you could need in the room.

The room was clean and comfortable, and the manager seemed genuinely concerned for my welfare. I had everything I needed and slept very well. The Old Ship Inn is very conveniently located for the town centre, and surprisingly quiet. I can recommend it for a budget stay, close to events at the Corn Exchange and the museums.
The door handle was a bit loose, with a bodged repair, and the desk chair was metal. The heating was off when I got up in the morning.

Staff were very friendly, helpful and polite on the phone and when I arrived.
Generous amount of tea and coffee!
Location was very convenient.
A little ‘run down’ (see photos).
I didn’t feel entirely secure - there is direct access to the door of the room from the street and just a basic Yale-style lock. Adding a bolt would be cheap and easy.
The room has a hard laminate floor - a doormat just inside the door would be useful to wipe shoes on.
As pub closed at 8pm, there was no-one to ask for the WiFi password when I realised there was no info inside the room.

No breakfast provided, location okay.
Entrance to room at the back, through small french windows not very secure. Access too easy for anyone. to get in.

Very quiet room as it was midweek so no outside karaoke etc. going on. Easy to find, right in the middle of the town and three doors down from Wetherspoons so food wasn't a problem. Friendly staff welcomed me and showed me to my room. Bed was comfortable, linen and towels spotless. Plenty of tea bags etc. provided.
Toilet bowl could have done with a good scrub with bleach. Strange having to go up the fire escape to access the room, but preferable to having one off the pub garden. Couldn't work out what to do with my key on departure as no access to the pub in the morning, ended up returning to my room and leaving it in there.

Rooms were nicely decorated. Bedding was clean. Facilities were good. Staff were friendly
I don’t think it could be helped but the frying smell from the kitchen was a little off putting in the rooms. Also the staff that I’m assuming lived there coming back at 4am and being quite noisy.

The hotel is on a main street in the centre of town close to all the attractions. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.
The "guest" internet did not work in my room. I had to use my laptop in the pub so consoled myself with a pint whilst doing so. The rooms were off the seating area at the back, but private enough and no one stayed late outside so it was quiet. This is not a criticism, but I mention it for the layout as the rooms are not inside the main building of the pub which incidentally is a lovely old pub as well.

Not a lot, it served its purpose of a bed for the night.
Even though we knew there was no parking on site, we didn’t expect there not to be any long term parking near the premises. We had to walk over 10 minutes with our luggage from the nearest car park and had to leave the car park by 8am the next morning or be charged for another day.
4.0 / 10.0
Central location but not aware that there is no car park nearby. So any luggage must be dumped whilst on double yellows. Or wheeled from the pay car park about 400 yards away. Its free between 6pm and 8am. So you have to get up early. Buying a ticket after 6 will give you a little more time. There are a few metered on street parking places in the road behind. But max 1 hour!
A bizarre feature is the access when the pub isnt open. The 'spoons (boo!) 2 doors down has lead to the pub closing at 8pm on up to 6 evenings a week.
There are just 4 rooms. 2 in the pub 2 in the outside drinking area (garden it is not).
Out of opening hours, access is via an unlocked gate? at the rear. Additionally, the 2 rooms inside require a climb up 1 flight of stairs and ducking through the fire exit doors!?
The room we had was pokey. No room for a wardrobe just a rail with 5 hangars. The twin bed was up against the wall. Why then have full length curtains? The drink making facility minimalist. The shower was decent though.
Sad to say but inevitably I think this pub will soon closs

We really liked the accommodation and the town. The location is perfect for visiting the south coast of England. The room was clean and tastefully furnished with everything you need for a short stay. It has a separate entrance through the backyard and is accessed via a small staircase, so we left our large suitcases in the car. The bathroom is located across the hall. The staff are friendly, and in the evening it’s just a short walk downstairs to have a beer. The town itself is very charming, with plenty of great cafés, restaurants, and a lovely shopping street all within a few minutes’ walk. I can highly recommend this place to anyone who would like to experience staying in a traditional English pub.

Booked very last minute and needed accommodation which accepted a dog. They had 1 room left thankfully. The room slept 4 and was clean and comfy. Beds were comfy too and had tea and coffee facilities, tv, hair dryer. The bathroom for our room was adjacent to the room but for our use only. Lovely welcome from Beccie, she gave us some great recommendations where to go (Durdle Door and Lulworth cove). The pub is right on the high so easily accessible to shops, bars, restaurants, supermarkets, cinema etc. Enjoyed a few drinks in the bar/beer garden as well. Overall good value for money
Just an FYI....as this pub is on the high st, there is no on site parking (not the pubs fault). However it was not an issue as there is a car park at the top of the road "Top 'o' town" which is a couple of mins walk, which is reasonably priced and free from 6pm to 8am.

I did not go there as it was absolutely not possible to contact the place prior to travel. They did not answer messages, did not answer the phone and did not return calls - although this was announced on their answering machine.
The money was taken via Booking in advance.
I have informed Booking, who were also not able to contact the property.
This needs to be flagged and investigated thoroughly.

The accommodation whilst not deluxe was perfectly adequate for our requirements.
The manager (Becky) was extremely friendly, welcoming and more than happy to help in any way.
The rooms are comfortable enough and are ideal for anyone visiting the area who requires a "base of operations". Being based in a pub, the rooms are accessible via the bar - which again is friendly and welcoming (especially after a long afternoon of walking in the sun!) - or from the street via the beer garden after hours.
One thing that was neither positive nor negative for us was the non-provision of breakfast; the room has a kettle and there are many cafés in Dorchester between the Old Ship and the railway station. Something can be had, even on a Sunday morning.
I would recommend The Old Ship to anyone wanting friendly, no-nonsense accommodation,.
If I have one complaint about The Old Ship, it would be the cups provided in the room were on the small side. We improvised with reused takeaway cartons, but I'm sure if we'd asked Becky she'd have found us some. Hardly a deal-breaker!

Central location.
Dirty room. Radiator stuck on. No fan. Dirty cups and filthy toilet. Very very noisy room. At midnight I had the pleasure of listening to the people in the adjacent flat arguing about microwaving chicken. No staff around unless bar open. Fire exits propped open. I could go on…

Very comfy beds, hot shower, enjoyed the hot drinks selection, loved the tv in bed was a nice treat. Even though was very close, we didn't feel like it was overlooked or too noisey at all.
Only had one large towel but wasn't a big issue as only there two days.

The tiny room was located in the small pub yard which felt very intrusive and was noisy. There were 2 single beds instead of a double. We felt we couldn't stay so found another room in a hotel.

Very central and easy to find. Not a super busy pub either.
Got woken up by the delivery at 7am as we were outside in the chalet

It was in a central location.

It was in a prime location right in the town centre and the room was spacious. Staff were friendly and upbeat.
The room reeked of urine! And the bathroom was extremely unclean! And if your over 5’8 then your head will hit the ceiling when in the shower! We had to put a towel on the floor to try and mask the smell because it was too strong to even sleep! They left the fire exit door wide open all night! Bugs flying in, spiders on the walls. I also found a hair on my towels.

We were able to exit the building via a back door rather than exit via the pub. The room was separate from other rooms. Room was a good size with TV and tea and coffee.
Shower was only adequate
6.0 / 10.0
The room was small but very clean and tidy, and looked like it had recently been decorated. The beds were very comfortable and the bedding and towels provided were brilliant white, fresh and clean. Lovely pillows and complimentary body wash in the bathroom. We were met in the pub bar by one of the staff members, who took us to our room straight away, which was a courtyard room. Although people were sat in the courtyard during the afternoon/evening (almost right outside your door) it was lovely and quiet once the pub shut. There was also access to/from the courtyard without having to go through the pub, so not a problem when the pub was shut. Excellent location, easy walking to town centre, train station, Borough gardens and the public car if you're driving. It was £72 for one night, room only, so the price was good overall, especially as there was an event in town and everywhere was fully booked.
We booked a double room online, as per the pictures on booking.com, but were given a twin room. The staff member said that the online pictures were out of date, and that they no longer had double rooms. He did offer to zip the beds together when we went out, but couldn't provide a double-duvet. We were happy with that, but when we returned late that evening, it hadn't been done. I'm sure he simply forgot and he had been very helpful with everything else.
When we arrived in the room there was only sugar on the drinks tray - no tea or coffee, only one mug, and the milk and water bottles were both empty. I spoke to a staff member, who gave me some teabags but couldn't find any coffee sachets (so gave me a ramekin of coffee spooned out of a jar. He also gave me another mug and came and filled the milk and water bottles for us.
Because the rooms are directly in the courtyard, with two windows facing the tables/chairs, you cannot comfortably be in your room without having to pull the blinds down, which then makes it dark. Would be better to have some nets or voils, so you can still enjoy the daylight but also have some privacy.
