Good breakfast, comfortable room but unwelcoming and rude landlord

Breakfast was great and the room was very clean and comfortable

The male landlord was rude and made snide comments during our stay. We also saw some other comments about him after our stay that said he had also been rude to past guest and people using the pub and for that reason they said and we agreed we would never use there again

Lovely quaint pub in a small hamlet in beautiful countryside. Lovely homemade food and locals to talk to. The parrot adds extra entertainment! Lovely healthy breakfast too!

Lovely Inn in a quiet village, with excellent food

I really liked my room; the size, the location , the access . The shower and hot water were excellent . Mark and Theresa are lovely friendly people. The standard of food is exrtremely good and it's all fresh. Vegetables are not overcooked, the steak/ale pie was fabulous , there are specials every day and those butcher's sausages were exceptional. One talking point (sic) is the parrot, Captain, who makes himself known in a very quaint and acceptable way ...

For a four night stay I probably would have preferred a bath but the shower was fine.

Good accomodation, food and real ale, coupled with excellent staff - what's not to like?!?

Our room (#7) was excellent - the bed was very comfortable, light and had a lovely ambiance. The bathroom with walk in shower was very large and everything worked well. The breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious. The evening meals were equally delicious and there was an excellent selection of very well-kept real ales. The landlord was very friendly , and obviously special mention has to go to The Captain!

It was a little noisy when anybody in the room upstairs was walking around, but that is only to be expected in a property as old as this one.

Great place to stay

Lovely spacious room with wonderful bathroom and shower, beautifully quiet location and very friendly landlord and landlady. Lovely food and excellent breakfast (extra points for the marmite😋) It was great to see Captain , the local celebrity parrot.

The road to the property is very narrow and a little scary if you meet two enormous tractors, but there are ample passing places.

A very warm welcome by the team , especially as we arrived outside opening hours . Lovely clean room . Good tea & coffee selection and toiletries in the bathroom. Good breakfast choice . Captain the parrot in the bar is a great addition .

Lovely, quiet and comfortable room. Plenty of space and good sized bathroom/wet room. The owners were friendly and very helpful. The food was delicious and the pub had a friendly village local vibe. The setting is very pretty, a small village with lovely buildings. The Inn has a lovely outdoor area and plenty of parking.

Hello Captain

This place is a hidden gem. Well off the beaten track, but it's worth the drive. The room was more than large enough for our overnight stay, very comfortable bed, and the shower was excellent. The bar has a good choice of drinks, so something for everyone. The food in the restaurant was exceptional. But the star attraction here is Captain, the parrot. He has recently celebrated his 42nd birthday.

There is nothing to dislike, Mark and his partner do a fantastic job to keep their guests happy.

Lovely traditional 12th century Inn in the depths of Devon… with a resident Parrot named Captain

We stayed at The New Inn as we had a wedding in Devon. The family room was lovely and big and suited our needs perfectly. The owners made us very welcome. Breakfast was excellent and when we arrived in the evening we enjoyed a meal made from local produce.

Lovely inn/hotel with lots of character. Room was very clean and comfortable. Very pleasant staff. Nice food particularly the freshly cooked breakfast. Love the parrot.

Kind and comfortable

Beautiful location and our hosts couldn't be more accommodating; we had been hiking the 2 moors way and when they heard my husband got a blister they instantly got hot salty water for his feet. The best part was the food all homemade and delicious!!!
