Comfortable yet traditional charm

A lot of thought and effort has gone into making Pipad’oro an unbeatable place to stay in Porto. I thought it good value, too. Perfect location to explore Porto from - close to the river bank and Pont Luis bridge yet also walking distance to Rebeiro’s sights. So much better than an hotel - the spacious apartment 2.2 came with a seating area, private balcony, cooker, fridge, microwave etc. Everything was very clean and fresh, including the bathroom. A room (on a high level) to the rear offers unbeatable views of the twinkling nighttime lights of the Port Warehouses across the Douro river and the terracotta roofs below. The real star is the pool - something quite rare in Porto centre, I think - and lounger area at the back. It’s an unbeatable mix of central city sightseeing but with the ability for a cool dip and sunbathe as well. Pool towels are available from reception. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The small bottle of complementary Port on arrival is a classy touch, as is the handwritten card. I checked in after reception had closed, at 9pm, and the instructions provided in advance were clear and easy (just don’t do what I did and go to one of the other PipaD’Oro buildings - it’s the red one you’re looking for, which admittedly they made very clear in the booking). WiFi, hot water air con, internet linked TV all worked well too. There’s also lift access to all floors (this is most welcome after the hills, steps and cobbles of Porto - my calves were sore upon returning home!)

The pool area was delightful, great view and nice to have a place to cool off and plenty of lounge seating. The room was comfortable and in a quiet, locals neighborhood, but close to many attractions, restaurants, etc.
