Such friendly staff, they gave us a really warm welcome.
A little drab in places but you get what you pay for.

Staff where excellent. My meal was delicious (sea bass)
Bed was very comfortable.
We were in room 7 which I assume was over the kitchen so had doors banging continuously and the extractors were outside the window which was noisy..the rooms need sound providing as at times it sonded as if the people next door were in the room with us!

The room was very spacious and very quiet. The view from the bar/breakfast area of the river was beautiful.
Nothing, no complaints at all.

The location and really helpful staff
Heating was a bit under par but it is to be expected with such an old building and being winter when we stayed

We had a very nice breakfast at the Fishermans Cot, & were looked after well by the friendly staff there. Our room was comfortable, & very clean.
Tea & coffee was provided, but no hot chocolate & no biscuits.

I love the area ,a lovely spot( for hiking and I believe in summer time it is spectacular),River Ex next to, snow ❄️ at the last day, very comfortable beds , good food at the restaurant.
I have to talk about old windows, wet day and night during winter, and lack of ventilation.
Unfortunately we visited during winter time and our radiator stopped working. After reporting an issue, we were advised someone will look into when we will be at the restaurant. Unfortunately when we were back the radiator was still off and no-one even offered any explanation or replacement heater. I have to mention the temperature outside dropped to -3

Overall the hotel offered very good service. The first room we were given had a very noisy "next room" but we were offered another room which was nice and quiet. Landlady was very nice and professional, had recently taken the place on and was improving things. Great value for money.
There were a few minor issues but nothing serious, as the landlady had recently taken over the property it takes time to rectify some inherited problems.
Provided what we needed at a fair and reasonable price. We went there in winter, in summer I am sure it would be much better.

Rooms were a bit tired

Gorgeous setting.
Our room was cold, mould in the bathroom, short of hot drinks and milk on arrival. Staff seemed disinterested in customers and waiting staff discussing negatives about colleagues with each other in the restaurant.
Breakfast was cold when it was served.
Public areas were dirty, like the loos in the pub, the tables were sticky and there was dust everywhere.
Seemed an insult to have to pay for a fresh-made coffee (Costa branding) given the lack of facilities in the room itself. It’s basically a roadside motel sat in paradise and could do with a scrub up and shakeup.

The staff were lovely, rooms clean and well-appointed, and very comfortable. And the location was excellent.
Food portions were a little un-generous for the price, and took a while to arrive, but were very tasty.

Breakfast was fresh and hot. The premises is by the river, had plenty of outside seating, no doubt lovely in the summer. But!
Very rundown, neglected. I will be contacting Marstons Brewery with comments as this is their responsibility. Bar area needs a good clean, actual bar pumps stickly, shelves dirty and dusty. All brass work had not been cleaned for a long long while. Floor sticky. Paintwork in really bad condition. Toilet seats in ladies all loose. Toilet seat in Gents off the bowl. This place should be spectacular, but it was a real sad sorry state.

The river
The disgusting dirty room. Cobwebs hanging right across the double bed to the other wall. Complained about this straight away and only other room they could offer was just as bad. So the lady said she would clear the cobwebs away, unfortunately still left one behind in another corner. I slept very badly and the following night I stripped the bed to find the 2 single mattresses originally cream was brown and very stained. I pulled out a single duvet from the shelves to cover the bed unfortunately this had blood stains on. Bathroom thick dust on extractor fan , pipes and mould on ceiling. Cleaners must have missed this room for months.

Great location
The hotel seems worn out and in need of tlc and staffing. The car park is messy and untidy. The lodge accommodation is unattractive and on entry the hallway was very smelly (like a broken drain). The room itself was clean and tidy. There were insufficient staff and we had to wait a long time at the bar before staff were available to help. This also meant tables were not cleared. Staff were fantastic given their constraints

Location is gorgous overlooking an old stone bridge and a natural weir on the river exe. Beds were comfortable and room was clean
The place needs a refurb. Lot's of flakey paint everywhere. They appeared to be stretched on staff with one lady doing multiple roles. She was very good but people were waiting to check in whilst she was trying to serve drinks

The setting was awesome however as my room faced the river so the view was excellent
They are a Marstons pub but ran out of marstons ale??
Being unable to close all my windows to dull the noise of the river was my worst night anywhere !!!

It was really pretty, the facilities were good and the staff were amazing - Maisie looked after us on arrival and she was absolutely fantastic.
There was only one pillow each on the bed

I love the location by the river
The building is very tired and needs lots of renovating . The bathroom in our room needed replacing and the paintwork and carpet throughout the place needed attention
8.0 / 10.0
Staff attention to my mobility needs made up for the physical limitations of the building regarding accessibility. Breakfast. View of the river and ancient bridge from the restaurant.
The only room with a separate shower was at the far end of the car park and up 7 steps. That was impossible for my limited mobility so I was moved to a room nearer to the restaurant and did without the shower for my stay. The accommodation has a run-down feel to it and some basic maintenance was lacking, e.g no strip in the light over the washbasin.
The no gluten ingredients menu was satisfactory but limited so ran out of variety in a five nights stay.

Nothing negative!!

In real need of refurbishment. My room was tired and cold (heating not working). One window had no curtain. Bed comfortable.
Easier to say that the one good thing is the picturesque location.

The food was good in the restaurant
The whole place needed a deep clean and completely redecorated.
