Ok for a sleepover enroute to elsewhere but wouldn’t go for a cosy weekend.

Gorgeous setting.

Our room was cold, mould in the bathroom, short of hot drinks and milk on arrival. Staff seemed disinterested in customers and waiting staff discussing negatives about colleagues with each other in the restaurant. Breakfast was cold when it was served. Public areas were dirty, like the loos in the pub, the tables were sticky and there was dust everywhere. Seemed an insult to have to pay for a fresh-made coffee (Costa branding) given the lack of facilities in the room itself. It’s basically a roadside motel sat in paradise and could do with a scrub up and shakeup.

Excellent, convenient stay

The staff were lovely, rooms clean and well-appointed, and very comfortable. And the location was excellent.

Food portions were a little un-generous for the price, and took a while to arrive, but were very tasty.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

The river

The disgusting dirty room. Cobwebs hanging right across the double bed to the other wall. Complained about this straight away and only other room they could offer was just as bad. So the lady said she would clear the cobwebs away, unfortunately still left one behind in another corner. I slept very badly and the following night I stripped the bed to find the 2 single mattresses originally cream was brown and very stained. I pulled out a single duvet from the shelves to cover the bed unfortunately this had blood stains on. Bathroom thick dust on extractor fan , pipes and mould on ceiling. Cleaners must have missed this room for months.

Needs urgent large renovation and clean. Such a shame, should be very special but its not!

Breakfast was fresh and hot. The premises is by the river, had plenty of outside seating, no doubt lovely in the summer. But!

Very rundown, neglected. I will be contacting Marstons Brewery with comments as this is their responsibility. Bar area needs a good clean, actual bar pumps stickly, shelves dirty and dusty. All brass work had not been cleaned for a long long while. Floor sticky. Paintwork in really bad condition. Toilet seats in ladies all loose. Toilet seat in Gents off the bowl. This place should be spectacular, but it was a real sad sorry state.

Bad first impression.

Great location

The hotel seems worn out and in need of tlc and staffing. The car park is messy and untidy. The lodge accommodation is unattractive and on entry the hallway was very smelly (like a broken drain). The room itself was clean and tidy. There were insufficient staff and we had to wait a long time at the bar before staff were available to help. This also meant tables were not cleared. Staff were fantastic given their constraints

Location is gorgous overlooking an old stone bridge and a natural weir on the river exe. Beds were comfortable and room was clean

The place needs a refurb. Lot's of flakey paint everywhere. They appeared to be stretched on staff with one lady doing multiple roles. She was very good but people were waiting to check in whilst she was trying to serve drinks

They are a Marstons pub but ran out of marstons ale?? Being unable to close all my windows to dull the noise of the river was my worst night anywhere !!!

Perfect for a short stay, staff and location were lovely

It was really pretty, the facilities were good and the staff were amazing - Maisie looked after us on arrival and she was absolutely fantastic.

The building is very tired and needs lots of renovating . The bathroom in our room needed replacing and the paintwork and carpet throughout the place needed attention

Not well-suited to mobility aids but I'm glad I went there.

Staff attention to my mobility needs made up for the physical limitations of the building regarding accessibility. Breakfast. View of the river and ancient bridge from the restaurant.

The only room with a separate shower was at the far end of the car park and up 7 steps. That was impossible for my limited mobility so I was moved to a room nearer to the restaurant and did without the shower for my stay. The accommodation has a run-down feel to it and some basic maintenance was lacking, e.g no strip in the light over the washbasin. The no gluten ingredients menu was satisfactory but limited so ran out of variety in a five nights stay.

We always really enjoy staying here as the staff are so friendly and helpful. The food is great, there’s something for everyone and great wine selection. Rooms are always clean and comfortable and of course such a beautiful setting by the river!!

A great spot for a pub, right by the river and wier

Room very tired, bathroom even more tired. No pillow cases on extra pillows, bedsheet didn't fit. Breakfast - seemed to be a distinct lack of staff with one lady running around trying to do everything. Come on Marstons, get your act together and give this pub some love and attention. Wouldn't stay here again until that happens.

Avoid like the plague.

Beautiful location Laura the manageress was very helpful when we complained. She spent the whole evening apologising to customers and handing out free drinks and desserts as compensation.

Dirty room and bath. Grubby bedding Grubby furniture Waiting time for a drink and food was ridiculous. Waited 45 mins for our first drinks to be served. Tv position made it impossible to watch and was fixed so couldn’t adjust it. Dinner reservation wasn’t booked as requested Prices in restaurant extortionate Didn’t sleep a wink due to constant noise from a massive portable freezer trailer that was parked outside our room. Couldn’t use our private decking area as so dirty. Bulbs gone in the bathroom Flush broken off the toilet cistern.

Room was very hot, even with provided fan switched on and we had asked for rooms close together, with the numbers being consecutive so you'd think they would be, but they weren't

Great location and very helpful staff

The staff were excellent. The room we had been booked into was poorly maintained, with one of the lights out in the bathroom so it was very dark, and the bath not properly cleaned. The overall manager was brilliant, and moved us into another room without hesitation. The beds are comfortable, although the doubles are made up of two single mattresses, so there is a ridge down the middle. The breakfast was good and service was friendly and prompt. My only criticism is that the only coffee available was Nescafe sachets. The location is beautiful, especially in summer when you can sit out next to the river.

The room was poorly maintained when we arrived. The light above the sink didn't work, meaning that the only light in the bathroom was two small halogens over the bath. The bath had also not been properly cleaned. Fortunately the overall manager was brilliant and moved us to another room.
