The owner and his wife were lovely, and the place was great for a quiet, relaxed weekend to escape the city.
7.0 / 10.0
The staff were very pleasant
The rooms needed updating.
It seemed I realise it was February but the breakfast item weren’t ready!
6.0 / 10.0
Nice property, bit of a shock to find its Indian cuisine which isn't an issue.
It was dated. Mattress has seen a good few nights and I could hear chatter in the bar clearly from the room

it was a lovely place and the couple were friendly who were covering the place. the tea bags were not replenished on our second day and nor was the toilet rolls - a lovely building but was dead no one in hardly
the room was lovely but we stayed 2 nights and the second morning there was tea bag’s they ran out and not restocked in the room
5.0 / 10.0
Ideal location and plenty of parking.
Breakfast choice was poor. I was only offered cereal or cooked. Cooked ready in 3 minutes and was minimal. Also seemed microwaved.
Room was very dated.
Staff did nothing but moan about the problems they faced.

Staff were not overly welcoming. Before saying hello they stated we need extra for the dog. Which I expected but they did not say hello or welcome just pay for dog.
Never checked in again after I complained about excessive noise from extractor fan in kitchen below my room.
Room very small due to added shower unit and felt very cramped in a small space.
Cobwebs and broken window handle don’t did not fully shut.

Bar area was great. Breakfast and dinner were lovely (although dinner a little expensive for pub grub). Comfy bed and great shower
Room was quite tired and needs updating.

Good location in the centre of the village, close to Oxford and The Cotswolds.
Pub does food, but we didnt eat there.
Quiet location.
Nice pub.
Comfy bed.
Good price.
Room was very small, not much room round the bed, but had everthing you would need in a hotel room.

Great location, comfortable room.
Room cold on arrival, only 2 sheets of toilet roll. Breakfast very limited choice and poor quality.

Warm friendly atmosphere, welcoming hosts ,good food and Football available on the TV.
Room although clean and tidy are showing signs off wear

We had a very pleasant stay. The rooms were comfortable, the beds warm, and the hosts were exceptionally welcoming and attentive. Their hospitality really made the visit enjoyable.
The only challenge was the downstairs bar and restaurant, which proved difficult to keep warm due to the cold weather. Despite this, the atmosphere remained friendly, and the effort from the hosts was clear.
Overall, a cozy stay with excellent service.

The breakfast was ok. The full English could have been better.
The lack of heating. The pub and rooms were chilly. We had to turn radiators up in our rooms.
The main bar area was cold, the radiators were just warm. The log for was not effective.

Nice location easy for Blenheim and Oxford, quiet village which is pretty
The place felt a bit unloved, lots of dust, dirty air vents, broken floor tiles, broken windows and a radiator that didn’t work to name a few things. It didn’t feel terribly welcoming and we didn’t feel very relaxed there. The breakfast was poor with only instant coffee
There was a dead fly squashed on the wall in one room, a broken window pane, and the extractor fans for the kitchen were below rooms and very loud. The shower rails were dusty, air vents full of dust and it all needs a good clean

Decent breakfast. Good location to get to Oxford Town Centre by bus.
Menu for the evening meal was quite basic and a bit over priced.

A good bar and restaurant. The wifi works well.
Nice helpful staff.
Access to the rooms is a little tight and tiried.

The location was really good. We had a good curry in the pub with a pint.
The breakfast was OK. Would have been much better if there had been better coffee available. The room was rather small

Host was ok but the whole experience was very poor
The facilities were poor, exit was through a back door where the exit and yard were dirty

It was a lovely pub in a good location and the food was good. Bed was comfy and the room was ok. The bar area was pleasant with comfy sofas.. The lady that did the cooking was very nice, although we only saw her a couple of times.
The gentleman that was front of house wasn't very welcoming. When we arrived just after 12 the pub was closed and I had to call to gain access even though on the website it said it opened at 11. I asked for a cappuccino and was advised that the coffee machine was broken, he said he was waiting for the plumber. He advised that the rooms weren't ready, I was too early, but we only arrived early to meet up with members of the family. As each couple arrived he again said rooms weren't ready, he was quite dismissive. We returned to the pub at around 5 and the whole time the pub was pretty much empty apart from a couple of other guests. There was no atmosphere whatsoever. The pub has an open fire and my sister asked if he was going to light it, he said he was waiting for wood. There were 3 ale pumps on the bar, he said they had run out and the brewery don't deliver at the weekend. It wasn't the homely pub that we expected and later on in the evening whilst serving dinner we found him to be a bit direct which came across as rude. When I paid, he chucked my receipt on the bar.
In the morning when we went dor breakfast he was better and thanked us for staying. Overall we found the stay a bit disappointing, the rooms had the potential to be nice, but lacked refinement. Drinks were also quite expensive and the prices on the menu weren't the same as on their website.

When planning our trip we were only looking for good value accommodation with no frills, particularly as we would be out every day and only needing somewhere to eat, shower and grab a bite for breakfast. The Chequers is not a 5-star hotel, but a pub with rooms, and for this the price was good.
Having never visited this area before we stayed for 3 nights on this occasion. The location was excellent for visiting Blenheim Palace, just 10 minutes away. In addition, the car journey to get to the nearest Oxford Park & Ride was also only 10 minutes away - and this was certainly the best way of getting into Oxford where traffic is awful, very slow in the city centre and also expensive to park. The Park & Ride bus runs until quite late in the evening, meaning you don't need to rush out of the city, but could stay for an evening meal or even a show before heading back to The Chequers.
Chequers staff were friendly. The room was comfortable. Breakfast was sufficient (cereals, juice, toast and full english). The addition of this being a pub with rooms allowed for drinks in the bar in the evening, rather than the usual feeling of having to stay in your room. Meals were also served in the evening which we took advantage of on 2 of our 3 evenings. The indian menu/meal on our first night was much enjoyed. We went for the english "pub grub" menu on our second night which was fine (but not fine dining). For both nights the price for the meals charged was good.
Overall we enjoyed our visit to Oxfordshire, and would plan to visit again in the future to re-visit Blenheim Palace (you definitely need 2 full days to see/do everything there, and the ticket covers you for return visits within the year so makes it good value). Oxford was great, too; deffo all about the university, (but then, so is Cambridge), and there is more to see next time.
Evenings - sport TV in the bar does not help lift the atmosphere; gentle music in the background would have been better (though not country music all of the time, please). If guests want to watch TV they can go back to their rooms. Candles, or even the rechargeable battery table candles would have added a warmth to the restaurant area with these on each table and along the window sills. Even if the wood-burner fire isn't lit, a red/orange light bulb placed within the fire would have added to the ambience of the lounge area of the bar as the evening darkened.
Breakfast - music, or dare I say, even breakfast tv, would have lifted the atmosphere a little, just as some background noise, and to cover the noise coming from the kitchen.

Friendly and sociable owners.
Nice clean rooms.
Ideal location for Oxford.
Reasonably priced.
Breakfast was adequate but rather small.
Evening meal in the pub was enjoyable but also rather on the small side and (some may find this an interesting twist) served in what I can only describe as a prison lunch tray.
And if you're tall avoid the top floor rooms as the leaning ceilings can be hazardous on the head as I experienced personally and I'm only 5'7".

We only stayed there because it was the only available B&B that had two beds in the area.
The carpets were filthy. The bathroom was so small that we could barely shower. Ceiling was so sloped that we hit our heads. The breakfast and dinners were very poor. I spit out the sausage in the morning because it was mushy and cold. Also had no taste, which was suspect. No real coffee. Only offered instant coffee to mix in hot water. For the price, we expected modern conveniences to some extent. It felt like it was stuck in the 1950s. They need to invest in the property. It’s a nice property with tons of potential, just in poor shape and not well maintained.

Nice location
Breakfast at 7.30am would have been nice to have breakfast for 7am as we had to be away by 7.30 so missed breakfast even though we paid for breakfast included in the price. Wasn’t aware of that at time of booking!!

Location was in a nice village, 4 miles out of Oxford.
Very small rooms, cobwebs everywhere,I hate spiders!
Nobody not even the locals in the pub. Breakfast was small. Frozen sausage, tinned mushroom.

The rooms were smaller than expected but at least decent and clean
There were some very easy fixes that could have made the place so much nicer. Such as fake plastic plants(why?), real plants but dead in their pots (why?), cheap value instant coffee for breakfast (couldnt finish it) when a filter press and some fresh coffee is so easy to do, a bit of tlc in the bar area and also the actual entrance to the pub (paint the window frames and make it look tidy), the concrete benches outside were not arranged well and also don't look great as a first impression, sign was fallen over outside, some easy touch-up work would give a much better impression. Quality of the food could be better. Accommodation was expensive for size of room. Clean the glass windows in the bedrooms.

The breakfast was good and the staff very friendly!
If the fronts was spruce up as some plants put in the planters in the front garden and round the side that would be nice and signs to wear to go to check-in reception should be would be helpful

The bedroom was big and the bed was comfortable. Location good, in a small village. We had the Steak for dinner and it was excellent.
The coffee for breakfast was not good.
Breakfast ok but not the best ingredients.
Expensive for small dog, £20 per night!!

Location
Surprise of finding a bus stop and seating provided outside the front door, minimum of 20 quiet people waiting for busses, due to temporary road works, therefore no parking available.
With all the buses and people outside there was no noise. Good room and facilities.

The homemade curry selection. It was excellent, so tasty, and gluten-free. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Would recommend it. Only stayed 1 night for a break, before driving home

The room was perfect for us (twin beds for myself and my daughter). Everything was spotlessly clean. It was particularly hot that week so fans were left in the room for us to use. We had all we needed in the room. We couldn't stay for a cooked breakfast as we had to rush but it looked and smelled delicious. All prepared by the owners who were very nice.
