the Hopetoun street during weekend nights can be very noisy, otherwise everyone in the lodge was very respectful and quiet

A great place to stay in Auckland

A beautiful building in a good location. Great facilities- big kitchen with all utensils you could need, loads of homey lounge areas, great outdoor space. Dorm rooms are all single beds, no bunks. It’s a quiet hostel which seems to attract respectful guests. New bathrooms. Helpful staff.

Lovely accomodation and location

Lovely old buildings in a great location. The place was very clean with very good facilities. I really appreciated all the nice areas sit in chill, my favourite being on the balcony overlooking the park.

Best hostel ever

Best hostel I think I’ve ever stayed in. So homely! Super clean. Great kitchen and lounge area. Staff delightful. Location nice and quiet but short walk into the CBD or Ponsonby Street. Not a party hostel but I that’s not what I was after. Couldn’t recommend enough.

A great hostel

Kitchen facilities were the best I have experienced in a hostel - big, plenty of pots and pans etc, lots of food storage space. The location was great - right at the top of Ponsonby Road and a short walk into the CBD. Really peaceful location overlooking the park, with lots of common space to chill. Good WiFi.

Verandahs was efficient, friendly, comfortable, and the spot - park, Ponsonby Road, cbd - is great.

It felt homely and comfortable in all the right ways. Though the buildings are old and conversions a little hitch pitch, everything important (beds, showers and kitchen) worked well. It was lovely to have big windows and a verandah looking over the park and the location is fantastic.

I might want mozzie screens on windows in summer.

Perfect place for a first time in Auckland

Excellent location, walking distance from loads of cool stuff in the city. We got upgraded to a larger room for free which was a pleasant surprise. They do a wonderful job keeping the place clean. Communal areas are spacious, the balcony has a view of the sky tower and the garden is peacefully full of birdsong.

The WiFi is intermittent. If you’re looking for a super sociable hostel this might not be your vibe, but we still found it easy chatting to people.

Lovely stay

The kitchen was really well stocked with appliances etc (multiple stove stops), rooms very clean and comfortable.

The location was great. It was close to some great cafes and as it backed on to a wooded park it was beautiful to see and hear.

There's not much to complain about. The bathrooms were a tad dated but I believe that they are doing renovations.

Nice and cosy

The Single beds instead of the bunk beds are a plus! Being on the Park side and enjoy breakfast outside in a green area it's just sweet...very cosy and warm ambient, cool people... The social context was great and the hostel was overall clean! I would definitely choose it again if back to Auckland :)

Nice family-sized accommodation on Ponsonby

The location is great, right on Ponsonby Road and just a 5min walk from K'Road. The hostel offers a nice kitchen and lounge and a beautiful garden; it's a small size accommodation (i.e., compared to almost industrial-sized hostels in the CBD) which makes it easy to meet people.

The rooms are very basic and the mattresses are way too soft and not comfortable at all- I've had terrible neck pain after just one night. They lack any privacy whatsoever (no bed curtains etc.) and individual lockers inside the rooms would be nice. Also the heater is on a timer and the blankets provided are very thin so it's freezing cold at nights especially if you have a window over your bed just like mine (but to be fair it's a general problem in old NZ houses and buildings, forget about thermal insulation in this country). The bathrooms are damp and cold and in my opinion there are not enough for the number of guests. Finally because of the location it can be really noisy at night (but earplugs should do the trick).

the bathroom’s light will be off automatically maybe every 5 minutes…….so scared when you are taking a shower and light out suddenly No hangers in the room I don’t know where my towel can put…

My home in Auckland

I stayed twice in this histel. They both were great experiences. The people and the overall vibe were amazing, super friendly and relaxed. I loved the garden area, such a nice spot to chill. Being able to store my luggage safely gave me real peace of mind, and the location couldn’t be better. Highly recommend!

I had stayed at Verandahs before and I like it so much that I decided to go back. The staff is very kind and attentive. The place is beautiful and the common areas make it very easy to hang out and meet people as a solo traveler.

There was not much space to store your stuff in the rooms, which means all the backpacks and suitcases are roaming around. A lift up base im the beds would solve this easily :)

Perfect comfy stay in Auckland, in border of a park :)

I loved it, one of my favorite place, I loved the building itself, the rooms are nice and comfy. The living area /sharing spaces are really big and nice to stay in. I met really nice people there. The view, and the fact we have the outside area in the park, feels like we are not in the city even if the location is perfect and close to everything we need.

One of the best hostels I've stayed in!

Such a lovely place! Everything is very clean, room and bed were comfortable. Kitchen was spacious and very well equipped. Quiet and relaxing place. Lots of little shops, cafes and restaurants close by. Bus stop to the city a few minutes walk.

Lockers in the room would've been nice to have. Wifi was a bit unreliable sometimes.

A hidden gem in the hostel world

As someone who doesn't frequent hostels much, I was pleasantly surprised & would recommend/return here again! Good vibes - I met some wonderful people from all over the world Excellent location - close to Ponsonby which has lots of shops and cafes. Woolworths within for groceries. 30 minute walk into the city. Western Park close-by. Large communal kitchen & lounge homely -everything within. I was in the building with kitchen, there are 2 separate buildings within hostel (one with kitchen and lounge). Basically, you keep items in bag with your name and details for fridge and cupboard use (good idea and big focus on recycling in kitchen) Outdoor garden serene A lot of people extending stay/returning which is always a good sign! Wifi excellent throughout stay Great laundry facilities - cash only - $6. Dryer or use of outdoor washing line Gentleman in charge kind when needing to cut stay short

Check in poor. Office hours need changed. They are currently 8-12pm and 2-7pm. I arrived early at 1.15pm and wasn't able to check in to 2.15pm (check in at 2pm) despite alerting of my arrival. Luckily, some kind residents opened the door & allowed me in to sit in lounge to wait. A few others had the same issue and had to wait outside. Check in very rushed & not made to feel overly welcome Fan not working in room (B)- I did report to housekeeping team so hopefully fixed now. The room could get very warm @ night. Window open but on main road & noisy. Bring earplugs. Luggage room - learnt code from resident (not given on check in). Would have preferred individual locker. Stairs could be an issue if large suitcases. No group events when staying

Wonderful stay at Verandah Parkside lodge

The location, the room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The lounge space was great to chill and watch a movie away from the room. The kitchen was incredible had energy I needed.

If I had to pin point one thing the windows on an evening rattled she the the crazy weather
