A wonderful experience.

Where can I even start, the first thing you see when you enter the room is an incredible view of the mountains. The hotel built very well on a mountain, the location well worth the drive, but it’s also located near aa cable car that you can take from and to Bolzano (the pass included during the stay). The staff is very accommodating and attentive, the pool, jacuzzi and sauna are great during cold days ant the food was great. All in all, truly a wonderful experience.

Amazing service, beautiful rooms and views and food was excellent. I can’t believe it’s a 3 star to be honest as it felt 5 star to me, really excellent place to stay to see the Italian alps.

Gasthof Kohlern is a small oasis. Me and my friend changed our travel plans and skipped visiting Venice in exchange of having time to stay longer here than we first had planned. The staff is warm and welcoming, and the service is excellent. You really feel seen and that they want to give you the best experience. They upgraded our room for free, and adjusted breakfast and dinner to offer really good gluten and milk free alternatives. Everything with a smile. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The place is located in a beautiful scenery with a stunning view of the mountains and Bolzano. You can se that they really have put their heart into every detail of the interior and decoration. We really enjoyed our room and the many different outdoor areas: terasses, balconies and the pool and SPA area. The place has soul and it was a very genuine and personal experience staying here. Definitely a place we would like to revisit!

Amazing picturesque oasis in the mountains

It is one of the best hotels I have ever experienced! It's a peaceful oasis with incredible views. The hotel is beautiful with exceptional design, and top quality execution. The staff are extremely talented, attentive and accommodating. They're very personable and enjoyable to stay with. Special shout out to Aldo who spent time with us at dinner and then at breakfast, giving us fantastic service. I am shocked the hotel is only 3 stars because what we experienced was nothing lower than 4, perhaps even 5! I can't wait to come back!

There were no coffee making facilities in the room and it's the first thing I need when waking up! However, Aldo kindly made me the best fresh Americanos which I was able to bring up to my room :)

Truly memorable experience in the mountains

Lovely couple running the business who were personable and friendly. The downstairs spa/pool/sauna were of exceptional quality for a relatively small property. Best of all was the restaurant which was one of the best meals I have ever had. Excellent advice and conversation from the owner and truly exceptional cooking. Breakfast was also exceptional. Very stylish all round.

Beautiful location with stunning views and great hospitality

Although a bit on the higher end (price wise), you totally feel the ‘premium’ experience when you enter the property. All staff is extremely friendly, speak their languages, and are there to make you have the best stay at their place. The property itself has been renovated with eye for detail, but that applies to everything. Backpack to borrow, umbrella to borrow, extra towels for the pool - it’s all there. And that simply continues when you decide to have dinner at their restaurant. Good food, sometimes with a twist, nice wines and great service - sometimes also with a twist. Would 100% recommend and if I’m around again, I’ll be back.

The shower head requires too much handholding for my taste. Small fix. Also, it’s quite a trip up. Not something you do a couple of times a day. There is the Kohlern bahn that can take you up and down, but keep this in mind when you book. The building is old (but renovated), but that does mean you can hear others from time to time.

Straight out of a storybook...simply the best in Europe...and among the best in the world.

Joseph and Christine run not only the best hotel but arguably provide one of the best overall experiences you can get in worldwide travel today. We were on a family trip with throughout London, Edinburgh, Malta, Bologna, and Venice for 2 weeks and it wasn't until we reached their storybook Gasthof palace perched on a hill high above Bolzano that one realizes how absolutely perfect a hotel and its staff can really be. From Nadine in the spa to Anda serving drinks on the patio overlooking the Alps to the pitch perfect wait staff at dinner in the dining room, everyone and everything was simply surreal. Breakfast was amazing… Fresh pastries, fresh jams, fresh, squeeze, juice, and eggs made to order… All with a view that is out of a storybook. The location is somewhere that most people would never dream would be even possible to stay. Think: a view out of the "Sound of Music" with the service of a five star hotel. Joseph and Christine make you feel like family from the moment you arrive to the sadness you feel when you have to depart. It is the type of place where you immediately start examining your calendar diary to try to figure out when you can come back. A rare gem...and at the top of the list, with all of the experiences of our travels in 35+ different countries over the years.

I wish I booked my stay for another week! Two days was way too short for us! Could have a bigger selection of beers (for the petty American tastes like mine!)

The staff for sure, esp Natalie, she is super 😘 And i feel so happy and relaxed in this hotel for the professional staff with excellent service and big smiles And the pool , jacuzzi is extra bonus , love it 😍 And the view in the balcony with dinner is something you can’t miss it

Lovely Spa Hotel High up in The Mountain with excellent views, the pool and sauna were a nice touch. The restaurant has a lovely, large terrace overlooking The Alps. The owner and his wife are lovely people and I would 100% come back with my wife. This time I came as a motorcycle tour

Exceptional

The owners/staff are very hospitable and welcoming. They will make you feel superbly comfortable. A card was provided to us that made the local public transportation free. The room was great, had an awesome view, and there was a hotel restaurant that served a nice selection of regional foods. Keep an eye out for the local cats, they are very friendly, pet them.

Be aware of the cable car hours or you may get stuck paying €40-50 for a taxi up the mountain.

Set up an amount in pasture above Bozen, This place is simply magnificent. You come here for peace and quiet and hikes in the mountains.The breakfast buffet and dinner was excellent, the staff extremely helpful and the rooms very clean. If you need to get away from it all come here!

Speechless views

The service is exceptional. Travelling alone I've never felt more welcomed and taken care of.

Only negative thing I can point out is, that the sauna & steam bath were not working when I was there. I'm sure the staff would make it work if you wish to. As I was only staying for one night, I couldn't use it just after arrival.

Characteristic and lovely

Spectacular location and fairly close to the city centre. The male staff needs a bit of customer service training. I am aware that there is a language barrier as I was speaking English and Italian to them, while they were obviously mother tongue German locals. By which I mean that the caring after live stock is more in their DNA than dealing with tourists. The lady of the manor was a delight: she even prepared a sandwich for me to take away in the morning. Unfortunately I had only a few hours at the property due to a flight delay and other commitments. I would definitely go back.

The narrow winding road to get to the hotel is quite scary if arriving at night. I am used to narrow roads in the Alps but that was a bit much. Once I got to the hotel, besides, one of the patrons told me that he could see my car coming up the road and that I was driving poorly. It was not mean spirited and I am aware that the locals can be unwittingly rude when speaking in Italian if they are mother tongue German but it might be worth knowing in advance. The lady of the manor was a delight: she even prepared a sandwich for me to take away in the morning. Unfortunately I had only a few hours at the property due to a flight delay and other commitments. I would definitely go back.

Not as advertised, lacking value for money

It was on a beautiful mountain, the breakfast was nice and it was near Bolzano, a great city.

On booking the swimming pool was advertised but this was frozen over when we were there, a funicular was required to reach the hotel & this didn’t run into the evening so we had to pay for taxis to the hotel, we were promised the rental of snowshoes which when we asked multiple times but never received, we asked about which hikes to do nearby and didn’t get any clear guidance from the staff, we asked to fill a thermos with tea for our hikes and the hotel tried to charge us 15€ for 4 teabags which seemed a bit cheeky given we had spent over 600€ total with them for 2 nights.

Abbiamo trascorso un soggiorno fantastico in questo albergo. Al nostro arrivo, abbiamo avuto la fortuna di ricevere un upgrade gratuito alla suite........ una camera veramente bella e spaziosa con una vista mozzafiato su Bolzano e le montagne circostanti. L'esperienza culinaria è stata il punto forte: il cibo era eccezionale e la colazione offriva una vasta scelta di prodotti deliziosi. La spa dell'hotel, sebbene non enorme, è piccola ma funzionale, dotata di tutto il necessario per un momento di relax. La posizione è ideale per chi cerca la tranquillità: il paesino è un po' sperduto, ma proprio per questo motivo è super rilassante, immerso in una natura bellissima e garantisce la massima privacy. Consigliatissimo!

Un poème pour l'âme et pour les sens : élégance, calme et volupté

Ce n'est pas un hôtel, c'est un poème. Arrivant lors d'un après-midi automnal, les premières touches furent les arbres flamboyant le long de la route en lacets menant au Gasthof Kohlern... Puis la terrasse, baignée d'une douce lumière, et la salle de réception chaleureuse ; grâce à la cheminée, mais aussi à la gentillesse du personnel. La chambre, enfin : spacieuse et élégante, sans être ostentatoire, confortable, donnant sur le calme de la montagne s'éteignant doucement dans le lointain. Nuits tranquilles. C'est un havre de paix, ponctué des voix amicales et prévenantes des hôtes, d'une cuisine raffinée assortis d'un luxe discret. On en ressort serein, les sens ravis par tant de poésie...

Ein toller Aufenthalt! Eine tolle Unterkunft! Sehr zum Empfehlen!

Eine wunderbare Lage hoch über Bozen. Die Stadt selbst mit der Seilbahn (Ticket kostenlos vom Hotel) oder mit dem Auto erreichbar (9 km). Sehr ruhige Lage, Sauberkeit top, Frühstück fantastisch mit einem atemberaubenden Ausblick. Der Spa Bereich einladend und mit einem Pool, der eine traumhafte Aussicht auf die Berge verleiht. Das Personal sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Ich habe mich dort sehr wohl gefühlt.

Ich wollte eine Anwendung buchen, leider war das nicht möglich. Ich fand es schade.

Frühstück und Essen im Hotel waren wirklich sehr sehr gut. Die Frühstücksauswahl mit regionalen Produkten war top. Die Speisen abends waren gehobene Küche! Fantastische Weinauswahl und immer freundliches Personal.

Zalig rustgevend verblijf met lekker restaurant

Heel rustgevend verblijf boven Bozen. Erg vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel. Zalig om aan de hitte van Bolzano (tijdens ons verblijf was het 35 graden) te ontsnappen. Het zwembad was erg verfrissend. Goede kwaliteit van ontbijt en diner. De gerenoveerde rifugiumkamer waar we verbleven was erg groot en had een mooi balkon.

De kwaliteit van onderlakens kon beter (jersey i.p.v. geweven).
