Balmoral Hotel San José CR, Historic District

Beds had lots of pillows and were fairly comfortable & room was quiet. I slept well. Room was clean and there was free breakfast in the morning in a beatiful atruim full of plants. We met the guy who takes care of them & he is very proud of his plants- as he should be! Hotel is convenient to many places downtown

"Balcony" was a weird closed in narrow room with bad lighting and the window in it was stuck open. I would have had safety concerns if this was on the first floor & not the 3rd floor. The coffee in the room was the weakest coffee i've ever drank- not sure if the issue was with the actual coffee or the coffee maker.

It is in an excellent location with nearby museums. Oh, and the breakfast is really good.

Central location, clean and comfortable room, and valet parking included. This place checked all the boxes for us. Our room included a balcony, fridge/freezer, and microwave. We were only here for one night, but we really enjoyed our stay. The staff were really accommodating, as we had a late night flight out of SJO. We left our luggage and car with them securely after checking out and were able to explore the city without any worries. Breakfast was included, which was convenient and adequate. We also had dinner at the hotel restaurant, which was reasonably priced and good, though nothing outstanding. Would certainly recommend the Balmoral Hotel to others.

It was a little odd that the bathroom had high frosted glass blocks positioned in the wall shared with the bedroom. Anytime someone turned on the bathroom light at night, the light would shine through to the bedroom. They were near the ceiling, so nothing could be seen through them, but the light was noticeable.

We stayed in a very expensive suite and it was comfortable, with different seating areas.

The shower was terrible, very hard to get the temnperature you wanted. The breakfast food was terrible, including the coffee and the restaurant atmosphere depressing. The staff were nice, but inexplicitly slow. It was so bad, we skipped the breakfast on our last day. Check-in took forever.
